Bilstein B8's on NC: fitted!!

Postby lucifuge » Sun May 02, 2010 3:40 pm

Suspension-wise my 2007 NC had the following

- Whiteline front swaybar
- Whiteline rear swaybar
- Eibach Pro Kit

While the Eibachs were a decent match for the stock shocks, I was left wanting more. After doing much research on shocks and coil-overs, I decided to try the Bilstein B8's. OK, I've only dríven the car twice since it's been done and it does need time to settle in, but the difference is fantastic, and surprising! So far the ride quality is far better in every situation, smooth or rough road. I wasn't expecting this. Comfort is arguably better!? It's much better over rougher roads. But the best part is the turn-in on cornering. There is no more front end dipping down into the corner. Its SO much flatter. A consequence of this flatter ride is that the DSC hardly comes on, that's a huge plus. I was happy with the ride height due to the Eibachs' and this has been preserved. The comfort is so close to stock that this really is the way the car should have been!

I highly recommend this setup for the street, particularity so if you are thinking of coil-overs and are unsure of which way to proceed. It's probably and awesome occasional track set up as well. I suspect 80%+ of the ride performance is due to the Eibach's and Bilsteins combo, while the Whiteline sways are the icing on the cake. So if you are stock, you could even consider the Eibachs and Bilsteins first as that me be enough.

Bilstein B8's on NC: fitted!!

I've had lots of cars, and tried many different shocks, but I've always found that Bilstiens are the best all around shock.
Not the cheapest, but good value for money.

While they ride really well, they also have terrific wheel control, and this is what you are feeling when cornering.
Hard shocks do not mean better handling or road holding, but having shocks with good wheel control means you'll be bouncing a lot less and you will also get better turn-in response.

Eibachs and Bilstiens are made to go together.

They're not the cheapest, but I'd rather spend $1K and get $1K worth of Bilsteins than pay significantly more and get questionable quality gear. For me it was logical given I had the Eibachs I guess. But my research of coilovers was interesting; seemed people were only consistently happy when they really shelled out significant money to get likes of Ohlins or equivalent. Middle range brands seemed cop a spectrum of reviews and this is always concerning. Bilsteins also last a lot longer than other shocks, so it was another selling point. My only concern was ride harshness, but quite the reverse occurred, so yeah, happy as that guy Larry

Did you find you had to adjust the bump tops when you fitted these? I've heard stories of riding the bump stops after lowering the car.

Also, where'd you get the Eibach's / B8's and how much were they?

Congrats!
