Town and country

Postby shake and bake » Sat Mar 06, 2010 6:58 pm

After reading through the forum it seems that this town and country exhaust sounds like a winner. As i am thinking of getting a new exhaust mainly for the benefit of a better sounding car, would most people agree this is a good way to go? By my understanding there has been an exhaust developed there for the mx5 (which i hope is compatible with my nb8b?). What does this system exactly include? roughly how much? is it still available? If i was to make a trip down to geelong what would be the process, what should i ask for and should i mention anyones name?

Also i have been searching everywhere for some footage/audio of what the exhuast actually sounds like. If anyone knows where there is a vid or could put a clip on youtube or something that would be amazing!!

Thanks in advance for answering more of my noob questions.

T&C ;52231350;150 Fyans st South Geelong;Colin.

Chrish on this forum is in Box Hill North and has their set up on an NB8B so does Toymx5 (NB8A); Chris''s car(remember they are all a bit different) went from 74rwkw to 82rwkw with the catback and to 86rwkw with a high flow cat and sounds magnificent.Maybe contact them for a listen! A sound clip is a very poor substitute to hearing the exhaust as a drive by and from the drivers seat

You ring T&C they book in, you come down to Geelong and about two hours later your car is transformed .

Cost; ring them but around $950 for the lot and maybe $350 less without the cat.

Do a search for them and you will find heaps of posts on this forum..

Dorifta,

As pcmx5 replied above you can't judge the exhaust by a sound clip, and you certainly can't feel the improved response and power. As I've stated previously you're welcome to check mine out.

I haven't seen you at 161 for a while, you're not working there anymore ?

Is this exhaust worth the money? They quoted me around $500 for the cat back which I thought was crazy... But my car sounds f ucking horrible right now and NEEDS something new. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I have apexi 4-1 extractors and an absolutely crap cat back which is getting worse and worse. Sounds like it's got a hole in it and using stock cat.

I want to know if my money is going in vain or not. Someone in Geelong have this so called perfect exhaust? The guy at T&C made out that god himself built this thing so I have a pretty high expectation given his pretentiousness.
From memory it's a 2.25" system with two hotdogs back to back going to a straight through mufler and ending with a 2.5" tip. Does that sound right? And would it be too hard to negotiate a 3" or 3.5" tip?

a larger tip will make it look worse (opinion) and sound worse (fact), but do nothing for power.

Is the exhaust worth the money- the answer is entirely subjective. If you want a particular system then you bench mark the cost and check alternate suppliers. A number of users seem happy with the supplier you have been critical of. If you judge it based on $ return on sale of the car then the answer is usually no. If a system is faulty it should be corrected ie a hole , etc. You make the choice.

I had a look the other night and the exhaust isn't perforated or leaking. It's just got a ton of rasp. Like... Basically, as soon as you rev it past 2500rpm it's this horrible raspy buzzie noise that is super loud and high pitched. Sounds god awful and is actually embarrassing to drive with.

How can I fix this? I heard a 15" resonator (since there is *no* resonator at all at the moment) should combat most of the rasp, this correct? Because alternatively I did some research online and a lot of people seem to think rasp comes from the cat.

Also, this is subjective but I find the 2.5" tip looks kinda small. I'd rather it be a tad bigger like 3"... But not like those huge ones you see on Silvia's and stuff you can almost stick an apple in.

the metallic rasp may possibly be a broken hanger, they tend to vibrate and make an aweful noise.

as for the T&C Exhaust, I've heard toymx5's in person, and it does sound very nice.

It's very well designed, a nice note and not over the top volume (read: doesnt get on your nerves, and shouldnt attract police) and it doesnt drone.

Well I'm in the midst of buying an RS*R exhaust at the moment haha. So I think that'll solve my problem!

RS*R does solve the problem of rattling, not by removing it, it just overpowers it with more noise :P

RS*R sounds great, just make sure to keep the silencer in unless you like defects.

Haha, yeah I can only imagine. Can't wait until it's on the car though. They look brutal! Only heard youtube clips of them which is really not a good indication of how it sounds I know. But I know people die for those RSR exhausts, Iv'e heard a LOT about them. can't wait to have one of my own ^_^

I know that it wouldn't represent the sound, but I was wondering if any of the TnC owners might be able to post a vid?

For the sake of those of us who aren't in Vic to hear them in person?

Cheers,

Josh
