Evening,
Im sure I have seen a thread (cant find the bloody thing) a long while ago addressing a "grinding/vibration" noise when at very low revs ie when taking off from the lights in 1st.
I have a 2006 NC and even the missus noticed it on a late night drive last night. Something to head straight to the dealer about? Sounds similar to my old NA's worn uni joint on the tail-shaft but not as loud?
Any experience or a shove in the right direction would be appreciated!

Re: NC noise at low rpm takeoff
My guess is you're hearing what Mazda refers to as "gear rollover noise" - there are literally dozens of threads about it on the "big forum", for example this one or this one
You need to remember that in the MX-5 you are sitting right next to the gearbox, there is not much noise insulation, plus the gearbox is bolted to the PPF (Power Plant Frame) which amplifies the noise too.
You should hear how much louder it gets when you have an aftermarket PPF brace as well

Unfortunately, it is the nature of the beast to sound a bit like a diesel when slowly accelerating (especially with a little bit of load) at low revs.

Re: NC noise at low rpm takeoff
Thanks very much, those links describe exactly what I am experiencing. The good new is, now that I now my car isn't going to explode, I don't need to go to Mazda to have it serviced and keep my dismal $2000 max claim used ca warranty

Hello all
Im a new owner of a MX5 07 model and just joined this forum looking for answers regarding the noise ive experianced at low rpm takeoff i noticed the nosie when going over speed humps at low speed in second gear its like a grinding/rattling noise but does go away when revs are up. Reading all your comments and going to the links provided has put my mind at ease thank you.
