Cold Air Intake

Postby REDANUBIS » Sat Jun 26, 2010 5:25 am

I’m looking for some suggestion; I have a 2005 MX-5 Speed and looking to get a cold air intake. I have found some short ram air intakes by K & N and some longer ones by AEM. I’m really looking for something that the intake (filter) will be located in front of the intercooler not form the engine compartment, but if I have no option’s it will have to do. Any ideas... Thanks... Anubis

I assume that by "Speed" you mean "Mazdaspeed"?

I don't know anyone who has done what you're looking for (no reason it couldn't be done if your air flter had some rigid protection around it to prevent damage) but most of us go with the AEM CAI. It's easy to install, cleans up your engine bay and dramatically improves your power.

I'd recommend purchasing via the US since it's a LOT cheaper than sourcing locally. Even taking S&H into account it's MUCH cheaper.

Yea it's a 05 mazdaspeed and thanks... I was looking at the AEM and it does look much simpler to install then others... I found 2 sights here in the U.S that have 2 types of AEM Short intakes check them out and tell me what you think would be the best choice.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Get the one from Goodwin Racing, it's about what I paid for it and they are MX5 specialists so you KNOW that it will be exactly what you need. The Aussie dollar looks like it's climbing at the moment so you might want to take that into account.
