Busted for too low

As the title says... I just got defected for being under 100mm apparently. I measured it myself at it was sitting dead on the 100mm but with another passenger and luggage it was lower... Was pulled over during a blitz last night.

So long story short I need to bring it back up to legal before the 4th or so of next month which is NOT long. Ok so I don't wanna put back in the stock springs at all. I wanna keep my low ones. I noticed when I swapped them over, There was no stoppers on top the shockers or at the to of the suspension towers at all. I'm guessing there should have been like a normal car...

To break it down simply, what can I do to raise the car up about 2cm without changing the springs. Can a put a shim type washer in to increase the height slightly or a rubber stopper at the top etc... Because I'm pretty screwed if I don't fix this. Don't want to get booked again.

I thought the height was measured with you out of the car? I guess not...

Can't help you with the springs..sorry.
But to all the Geelong folks out there, vicpol is doing a blitzkrieg on everything vehicular over the next 3 or so days.
I have a few mates that way, and from what I am hearing, EVERYTHING is getting the once over with nil latitude.
ie. no discretionary powers.

Yeah that's exactly what's happening. Should have seen what I saw last night. Drove to the station to pick up a mate, nearly 2 cars on EVERY street the whole way there had been pulled up. I'd never seen anything like that before, on such a huge scales. Could see flashing lights in rear view and infront of me!!
Unfortunately I got bailed up too.

Oh and the 100mm is apparently 'fully loaded'. That I didn't know either... The officer was nice about it, but even so. I didn't expect to be pulled up, there are waaay lower cars in Geelong than mine (try every friggin Commodore..)

Buy a cheap set of stock shocks, put standard springs on them, then just swap the whole lot over, get it checked by the police, then put the lowered ones in again. Pulling the shock/spring combo out is pretty easy in a NA, you just need to change the splitpin on the balljoints when you do it

If you want the stop NAs from looking their ridiculous stock height - paint the sills from black to body-coloured. It does wonders for looks.

JBT got it right - if the car complies no probs. Good that the police actually check cars - what a novelty- there are a lot of rockets on the roads- bald tyres, faulty lights etc etc.

Yeah I agree with you guys but come on, the point of this was to find out how I can raise the car without getting new springs... Not ridicule me for being under 100mm.
I like the idea of those metal 'washer' type things to put on top the shockers. See I'm only JUST under the limit so If I can raise it up half an inch I should be fine. But I'm not a fan of the stock springs the mx5 is packed with, So I'm hesitant to put them back in. naturally I'm going to HAVE TO put them back for a RWC, but I'd like to go back to the lows.

Maybe someone can lend you a set of shocks & springs to clear the defect?

To those forum members up in QLD... when I was up there I was pretty shocked by what was let on the roads. If you're actually so concerned about unroadworthy cars maybe instead of berating nanotech you should direct your keyboard efforts into doing something about it?

I don't think anyone was ridiculing for being under 100mm, but for the idea of swapping to springs to get over the 100mm, then get it checked and passed, and then swap back to the ones that the original defect was for. That is just stupid, unless of course you love paying defect fines and swapping springs every few weeks...

Yes it can be shocking to see some of the cars which are allowed on the roads up here. Just yesterday I saw a Leyland P76! :shock:

They should be outlawed.

i'd change to some stock nb shocks. they will give your car tonka spec.

Hmm well maybe if you read what I was saying properly... Sorry I'm not trying to be condescending here but I can't help but feel people keep missing what I'm trying to say.
Yes I want to swap the springs to the originals so I can clear the defect. But no I don't want to go straight back to the 'defective' ones. I was hoping people could point me in the direction of something like that suspension spacer posted somewhere up above. Something that will raise the lowered springs up about 2cm so I WON'T incur further defect notices in future!!!
God... Maybe I'll just sell the springs about look for another set that sit a better height... Thanks for your input
