Help with tire selection for new rims

Postby marky210 » Thu Jun 17, 2010 10:15 pm

Need to get tires for my new rims and want to know what you guys recommend as a good street performace tire?

The Specs of my rims are: Work Meister 16x7 +30. and they will be going on my 99 NB.

Ive always ran the Goodyear eagle F1 on my stock 15's and have always liked them but thought id see what else is out there and what you guys like and run for the street.

Also what is the best width and profile also?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :D

Cheers,Mark

The OEM NB8A uses 195/50R15 tyres and the OEM NB8B uses 205/45R16. Though the OEM NB8B rims are only 6.5' wide and +40 offset.

Looking at this suggest for 16', you should stick to 205x45. Though you can use this wheel calculator to figure out which best size suits that won't change the rolling diameter much - http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Though I'm sure it will be 205x45.

On my 16x7.5 i had 205/45/16 Bridgestone RE001s, they actually went really well.

Other than that I've only had cheapy tyres on the 16s, so can't really make any other recommendation.

People seem to like the Michelin PP2 (now PS2 I believe), perhaps look at the Kumho KU36 if you want great dry grip at the cost of tyre life & wet grip

Now just to work out what tires i want.... :?:

Im going to get new work or rays lightweight wheel nuts, Do i need to get the long or short ones to fit up to the Work meisters??

Thanks again for your help guys :D

This is what 205/45 on 16x7 +33 looks like.

Personally i would go with something a little bit fatter, maybe a 205/50/16 to protect the lip of the rim a bit more and also fill up the guards a bit better.

edit: here is 205/50/16 with 16x7 +25, you can see it's much chunkier
