Bose Door Speaker

Postby duggan_nugget » Mon Jun 07, 2010 12:37 pm

Hi everyone,
Just got an 06 mx 5 with bose and I love it! Unfortunately the passenger 8" speaker is blown (lots of distortion at all levels). The dealer I bought it from will probably not fix it under the 3 month warranty (the thing i signed said it didn't cover any of the audio system).

I contacted the dealer in my town and they said $450ish for a new one.
I was wondering does anyone know if there is a non mazda part equivalent that would be cheaper? Or any recommendations for a similar speaker that i could fit? (I read somewhere that the bose one is a special design to save space)

Thanks in advance!

Are you based in Sydney?

I would highly recommend Marty and his crew at FHRX, Cronulla and I have no doubt you'll get better product and service from them for the same $$$.

Good luck!

Thanks, but I'm actually in central QLD!

I think i'll try to get the speaker out tonight, to see if it is the same as this one I found on ebay.

Bose components usually have a very weird impedance and don't play well with other toys.

Give the various forum sponsors a shout, you'll probably find one of them has one. It may also be worth picking up another right one as well, especially if someone has managed to cook the left one.
Went for a drive and there were slow cars everywhere, why are NC's so common . . . must be NC = Normally Cardiganed.

Richard at MX 5 plus here in QLD normally has parts from the NC's so you could probably get one from him at a good price, and hes great to deal with.

$450 for one BOSE speaker??? That's rediculous!!

As recommended, speak to Marty @ FHRX Studios. He has outstanding audio knowledge, he's a great guy, and he has an exceptional range of quality gear.

You can get a full component set (tweeters, mids AND crossovers) from a great brand for $450 which would far exceed the performance of the factory BOSE components...and that's for a full set! $450 for a single driver is around Focal K2P money...which is ludicrous.

BOSE as a brand is massively overrated.

I have a full set of Focals in my 5, and they are fantastic and worth every penny!

We all know what BOSE stands for don't we?

I just had a thought.

I was reading up on the Bose systems and someone mentioned that there are 2 amps in bose systems, left and right (can anyone verify?).

The issue with my system is not always present, I can turn the car on one day and it will sound as crap as ever, then another day it will work perfectly for a few minutes / 30 mins then start to go bad.
Could it be that the issue isn't with the speaker itself but with the amp?

Quite possible!
Check your wiring, especially the earth on the amp in question.
Generally, if a speaker blows, it's gone and doesn't come back at all, but a poor connection to an amp can make it come and go.

Amp is behind the passenger seat on the rear bulkhead according to the PDF manual I have.
Could send a copy of the section but it's 1.8MB.
PM me
