Manual to Auto conversion Diff?

Hi

I have recently converted an imported auto mx5 na 1.8ltr 95 mod from and auto to manual

However im facing a minor problem, the manual tailshaft has a different rear coupling yolk compared to the pinion yolk on the diff, the manual shaft is a much smaller yolk.
I have tried a manual youlk but wont fit the pinion and as the tailshaft cant have the uni joint changed should i just change the diff??

Some ideas on this issue would be of great value. Thanks

I'm a bit new to mx5's but if it were a datsun I would say to change the yolk on the diff and keep the tailsharft and diff.
I'm sure someone here will know for sure

I was under the impression that you had to change the whole diff as part of the conversion, I know mine was, but you may be able to get away with just changing the yolk.

I'm confused, is this an "Auto to manual" conversion, or a "Manual to Auto" conversion like stated in the thread topic?

when converting my auto to manual, i needed the manual tailshaft as the yoke was different size.

I did not change my diff.

Knowing if it is an NA or NB would be good too, I have an NB.

Hey,
It is an auto to manual conversion.
Its an NA model
I have the Gearbox in from a 1.6 clutch and flywheel all fitted, and the engine is all running and lights all work. Just need to connect a tailshaft to diff and its done!
I have the manual tailshaft from a 1.6 and the manual brace as the auto shaft and brace is shorter.
The problem im facing is the coupling on the pinion and the coupling on the manual tailshaft are different size offset to mount the bolts. I thought about drilling the holes perfectly centred between the exsisting ones as the shaft still fits snug on the tapper but am woried about balance issues.
If i could get the unis out i could have simply swapped the auto uni to the manual shaft and it would all be sweet.
I have aquired another diff which unfortunatly have the same coupling.
The only thing i can think of is i might need a tail shaft from a 1.8ltr with an open type diff as the 1.6lsd seems much smaller, which would explain why my tailshaft dosnt match!

I have also tried changing the yolks on the diff but the yolk that fits the shaft is smaller than the one that has come off the diff, ie wont slide onto the pinion.

Hey,
all all sorted just needed to get a 1.8 tailshaft. Glad it was a simple solution in the end :)

Now just gotta fit rollbar, and harness, put the wheels on and attach exhaust.. :D
