Why worry about the rear screen demister?
Just use your air conditioning.

It works a lot better than the rear screen heater.

I concur with Benny. I rarely had trouble with mist on the rear window in my previous NA by using either the flow-through ventilation feature or if the mist is built up heavily which was rare, I just hit the a/c button for a few seconds to clear it. Besides, it helps to prolong the life of the a/c system if you work it a few times a week even in winter. The a/c in my previous NA was still in perfect condition save for one regassing and retrofitting to modern refrigerant even after 20 years of service.

It's a real pain to plug or unplug the demister in the confined quarter where the female plug sit in my MSM so I just leave it unplugged most of the time.

A few more tips. Always keep your interior glass area and your rear vision mirror super clean. If you have mist, never ever use a rag or worse, your hand, to wipe it off. Doing so will just introduce grease on the surface area. I go berserk whoever uses his or her bare hand to touch my glass area. I just use ordinary dish washing liquid thinned down to clean the glass followed with a wipe using paper towels. Then I use a sponged soaked with one part methylated spirit mixed with two to three parts water to wipe the glass again and dry off with paper towels. This treatment cuts down misting problem considerably. Do this ritual every two to three months and you can forget about any fanciful demister.
