Vented Left Hand Headlight cover

Postby MoodyBlue » Tue Jun 01, 2010 8:42 pm

I'm a Newbie to MX5's and really love this little car.

Amongst a lot of goodies I have fitted I have just got from E-Bay a vented headlight cover for the left hand side. Anyone fitted one of these? and did you fit any ducting behind it, of modify the airbox? Extra air intake etc?

Cheers
Jeff

Welcome Jeff - a few forumites have got vented headlight covers - a search of "cold air intake" or 'CAI' should give you lots of ideas:

search.php?keywords=cold+air+intake&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=topics&st=0&ch=0&t=0&submit=Search

search.php?keywords=cai&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=topics&st=0&ch=0&t=0&submit=Search

Also, an excellent article by 'matty' of the forum:

Welcome!

I have two Headlight Cover Intakes!

For some light reading, please have a read of these posts/threads about Headlight Intake Covers:
1) click me

As for your specific application, the best would be a 3A pod filter with an AFM adaptor and if you really wanted, you could build an airbox for the pod filter sitting just behind the headlight.

Here is one that Ian did (not the best photo but you get the picture  )

Hope this helps.

This is the one I have:

I don't have any ducting or anything for it. I wouldn't worry about modifying the airbox or anything, I don't think they make much of a difference performance wise... They look cool though lol

Maybe a little difference in performance? Ian had dyno sheets to prove it the last time.
