New tires and Speedy wheels?

Postby OMY005 » Tue Jun 01, 2010 3:17 pm

The time has come after 5 years of ownership that I need to replace my tires. Is there any good high performance 185/50/R14's available that people could recommend?

My alternative is to change to 15". I thinking of these new Speedy (black) ones below. They weigh 7kg/15.4lb and are $129 each, I haven't seen one in the flesh yet, there available in late June. I'm thinking about putting 205/50 Kumho KU36's on them. Is a 205 width tire OK on a 6.5" rim?

Any opinions?

Are they too heavy?

Andrew. :D

Bridgestone RE001 are available in 185/60/14
They have mixed wet reviews but I'm very happy with mine.

Wheels look great Andrew. 205 works fine on 6.5" rim.

205 on 6.5 is ok.

have you looked at 15x7 rims at all? but you'll pay $70 more per rim. :(

what colour car?

I haven't seen any 15X7's that I like (except 6UL's = $$$).

My car is white.

$129 per rim for these is very cheap. Good price.

I'd go the gunmetal option in the provided pics.

Or the 6UL in 15x7 will cost you an extra $280 for the set. Too much?

Go bigger wheels for bigger tyres Andrew, you won't look back.

I have Watanabe 15x6.5 with Kumho Ecsta XS KU36 in 205/50 R15.
You can have a drive in mine to get an idea of how good these are. Since you do so little km's, the tyres will last you a loooong time.

I have Kumho Ecsta SPT KU31 in 195/50 R15 on 15x6.5 on the Festiva and they are also an awesome tyre @ $70 each!

If you're thinking of going down the 6UL route, Kain has a white NA6 with silver 15x7 and TCR has a white NA8 with the charcoal colour in 15x8

heres TCR's

I've got the 15x8's as well. Never say no to some extra width (although it probably pushes the budget out a bit too much for you OMY005)

Mine's here: viewtopic.php?p=521870#p521870
