Exploring Tassie

Hey guys,

My contract will be finished at the end of Aug so I'd thought I'll take the opportunity to go on a road trip with my better half.

We're planning to spend 2 weeks relaxing, checking out the scenery, catching up with friends and most importantly - finding some twist-ies drive through on the way and back.

Whilst I'm quite confident that I'll be able to find various scenic places between Sydney and Melbourne and interesting routes to get there, I'm at a lost with Tassie. We're getting there and back via the Spirit of Tasmania and are planning to spend 4 to 5 days there.

So my questions in the collective intelligence are:

- Any recommendations on must DO or must SEE in Tassie?
- Is 4 to 5 days too short/long to check out Tassie? (I've never been there)
- Where are the great roads?

My gurl and I did Tassie in January. We had 14 days and wished we had more. I would recommend East coast. It all looks incredible, but east coast will give great scenery and amazing roads!! Elephant pass is a must... Plus Targa Rd from near Tommahawk down towards launceston is another great piece of Tarmac.

You can't actually go wrong anywhere is Tas. Enjoy!!

The opinion of a native says (and this is only 1 head speaking here) 5 days is too short to see it all. Its a bit like 1 day at Disneyland. You need to plan your day and if you dont get to go on all the rides, at least you did the good ones and the others will still be there next time.

So I'd say make a decision on East Coast V West Coast. Each have great roads and the areas have a different feel to them culturally.

The other head says if you want to spend as much time behind the wheel experiencing the road as you can, 5 days is fine and you will get to see shitloads. You could even follow the Targa path for a 5 day driving visit.

Cradle Mountain, if you like some great scenery, and a bit of bushwalking it is fantastic. Some great country roads to get there, Cradle mountain lodge is on the edge of the National park and is a nice place to stay with excellent food and atmosphere.

Been thre twice and caught the mountain clear of clouds both times. there is an easy walk around the lake, and more energetic walks up to the higher parts if your into it (which I am ) and the views are spectacular.

Thanks guys - decided to postpone the Tassie trip to coincide with Aussie Open next year.

Planning a QLD trip at the end of July instead (will also detour to MX5PLUS to get a twin hoop installed as well).
