Boss frog fender braces

Postby charlie_91 » Wed Jun 02, 2010 2:38 pm

Update :)

Ok so i had a chance to install the fender braces last night. This is the review.

Boss Frog 'Frog Arms'

When you first receive these braces they are very good quality. THe welds that are one them are good and the brace itself is sturdy yet light.

Installing these requires take the fenders off to get access to the mounting points.
To take the fenders off put the front of the car on jack stands and start by taking off the wheels.

Image

Image

The next step is taking off the inner fender liner. This is easily done by unscrewing the plastic plugs and pulling them out.
The next step is to get on to removing the fender. The instructions give a ok whereabouts as to where the
bolts are but its pretty self explanatory. Be sure to remove the bolts ontop of the front bumper so u can reach one of the hard to get fender bolts.

Image

Once the fender is off all you have to do is pull out the wiring out of the grommet, and remove the required bolts from the instructions.

Image

Once installed put fender back on the do the other side. Then wheels back on and drive :D

The install itself is pretty easy. It just takes time.

Frist drive:

As soon as i installed them i quickly dropped my car and took it for a drive. As soon as you take the first corner you can feel it.
The steering is much more sharper and direct, there is less body roll and the front scuttle shake is gone.
Even when driving over train tracks its 3 times better to say the least. Less shimmy at high speeds.

Overview:

Pros:
Reduced skuttle shake in front
Direct turn into corners
Less body roll
At high speed the car is very stable (no shimmy)
Solid front end feel
Reduce impact of bumps and train tracks
PRICE

Cons:
Install maybe ?

These braces are brilliant bang for buck and really do make the ride alot more enjoyable.
I recommend these to every mx5 driver. You will not be disappointed.

On another note, my 1.5 way lsd just received fresh bearings and seals and will be ready soon :D

Plus it gives you the chance to clean out all the compost from the bottom of the guard.

Got the roll bar fitted the other day and here it is :D

Image

Sorry for the dirty car :P and crappy phone pic :)

Also just last night i seem to be leaking oil from somewhere. I am yet to find where from though.
Im guess somewhere at the back of the engine ? From underneath it looks to be coming from there.

Does anyone know any spots to leak from ? Ive just had all the gaskets done when i got the new engine put in a few months ago.

also one of my mates took a few photos of the car.

Update #1:

So in the last few days a few things have come in and i have also bought a few others lol

I have the rear subframe brace, oil catch can, new us mag and a sticker

Image

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I also purchased a arc enlarged intake two days ago and should be here early next week.

Image

As of monday my engine will start being fixed (stop leaks) and the brakes will be being done.
Ill also install the brace, spacers, tierods (maybe) and the intake. Soon i also want to make a bmc brace which will be pretty easy :)

cheers guys

Update #2:

Ive have the car in the shop since tuesday sorting out the oil leaks, brakes, intake and a few other things.

I also fitted the spacers but i had some problems with them but they managed to work in the end..

Here are a few pics from my phone camera lol but im sure there will be a few more from the meet last night.

First of all heres the engine shot. Its showing the oil catch can setup and the new intake.

Image

The arc intake is awesome its like the mania cai but quieter but gives a very nice sound :) Excuse the headers lol

Second of all i got the tie rods in and here is the difference in the angle.

Before:

Image

After:

Image

As you can see there is a fair bit more lock. However my brake lines dont have much slack at all on full lock due to the increase of angle.
To deal with this im gonna get a price on a pair of longer custom stainless steel brake lines

After this was the spacers and heres how they look :) Im pretty happy with it and the handling has improved due to the camber in the front
so win win. I might wanna go a little bit lower as well but we'll see :)

Image

Image

The brake pads that were put on were ebc greenstuff and so far there really good :)

Image

I also put on the flyin miata rear subframe brace to thanks to john :) Excuse the exhaust lol :)

Image

I cant really notice much difference in the way the car feels with the brace because i got the roll bar but its cool anyways lol.

Im also thinking of cutting my rear bar a bit to show it off

Anyways thats about it.. Let me know what u guys think

Love the arc. Does the arc give you more induction roar? :D How does it effect performance?
