30Kg Alan?

I thought it was 20kg?

Maybe a careful balance on the old bathroom scales would be the trick!

If you include the latches and cathces it is closer to 30kg's. About 26-27kg's from memory with everything.

That's according to the book [Mazda MX5 Story] that I've read. Also the latter NB hardtop (with demister and additional roof trim/insulation) is heavier again.

The same book also states the NA softtop with plastic window is about 1kg heavier than the NB softtop with glass window.

That would be the difference in the frames?

Lightyear is correct, with all the additional latches etc the latter version is about 26kg all up. The earlier versions are about 1kg lighter.

The non-demistered/headlined version HT (only) is about 20kgs.

Clearly not. Is that why my car is so quite with the hardtop. All that extra headlining. Hmmm. migh have to rip some out. It could give me a few tenths @ Wakefield. :D

I think the weight difference would be due to after market ones being different weight. I have seen a couple of different ones around. The wrecker near me has one with a leather texture finish even.

The textured finish is from the first model. The only colour was black and did not have a demister. The matching colours came later (90 or 91 from memory) and any headlining adds only a few ounces to the weight.
My '92 (October '91, the very first delivered in Oz with the wider rear number plate panel)) NA6b was delivered with matching Crystal White top and included the demister.
The weight stayed the same at 19.8 Kg.

Have you weighed the latches by themselves? they are heavy. You must have the lightest hardtop if yours weighs 19.8 complete. And you also have to include the clips on the car and the bolts.
