I shall be attempting a timing belt change on my car next week. Done them before on mates cars, so hopefully all will go well.
Just a quick question. Does anyone have the tool for holding the crank while undoing the big nut (simialr to the tool in the service manual) Any chance i could borrow for a week?
if not is there any secrets as to getting the nut off?

Quick timing belt question
I found that by putting the car into gear, 5th I believe, then I could undo the nut. Just make sure the rear wheels are on the ground, hand brake is applied and the wheels are chocked so the car can't move. I used a large pry bar over the socket wrench to give me the leverage.
Have you worked out how to stop the cams moving when changing the belt?

Both times I've done a cambelt change I did as Juffa mentions, no problems. One I didn't need an extension the bolt just unwound with very little force

ahh didnt think of that...it should do the job then
as for the cams moving...nup i got a week to think about it

But I found TDC on No 1
line up the marks works a treat.
Unfortunately with your NB8B you don't have the luxury of the marks you have with the non VVT models
&
But frankly I'd personally check the markings & final check with counting teeth. Maybe even mark the cam sprockets on the intake side.
