Replacing non-stacker CD in NB8B with 6-stacker?

Postby MarkGT » Sun May 23, 2010 9:15 pm

Hey folks, seems like I missed out with my NB8B and don't have the stacker option. Is it a simple matter of finding one at the wreckers and doing the swap?

Also going to probably get one of the XCarLink iPod integration kits so I can use my iPod touch for mass storage.

Replacing non-stacker CD in NB8B with 6-stacker?

Yes. It's a modular head unit so the main part of the head unit is the same and all the extra bits like stackers/cassette etc just plug in. I got a pretty good price on the stacker from Mazda a few years ago when they were clearing stock of NB accessories so just swapped the single disc for the stacker unit. The hardest part is getting the head unit out of the dash.

The BOSE system is different though as it has a seperate amplifier.

Ahh, so it is different then to the one in my SP20 which is an in-dash stacker? It would have to be as there is not button on my unit to load the CDs, and no selection for which CD you are playing.

Just playing Devil's advocate here:

Why bother going through the effort to find+install a 6 stacker CD, only to require an additional iPod connection when you could simply buy a new unit that supports your iPod.

If you start using an iPod or USB stick you'll never bother to use CDs again anyway.

I bought a Double-DIN unit to replace my 6-stacker that supports iPod and USB input and only use the USB stick option - I don't care if the USB stick gets stolen but I would care about the iPod.

No, it's an in-dash stacker. The load button is hidden behind the single CD face plate that gets replaced when the stacker is fitted. It's just a matter of unscrewing 4 screws and removing the face place plate and the single CD comes off the head unit. Reverse for installing the stacker.
