Black Goo inside door cards

Hi all,

After upgrading my stereo, I degreased the door to remove all that black goo. I didn't dynamat the holes so i'll need to reseal it up with the plastic moisture seals/sleeves that came with the door (i bought some new clean ones).

Does anyone know where I can source the black goo to fix them to the door?

I've tried clark rubber, supercheap, my local tyre shop, peps, and no one had them in stock

I hear they are nick named "industrial strength blu tack" or "gorilla snot".

Any assistance is muchly appreciated.

Isn't that the same thing they use to spray under the car for protection and sound deadening?

It seems to have the same texture and consistency/viscosity.

I really hate that stuff. The only advantage is it is waterproof?

yup, waterproof, and it's not a permanent sealant, so it allows you to peel the moisture seal if need be.

I've always used "Black Mastik" successfully .... (Also called Butyl Mastik from memory.....)

Most autoshops / hardware shops should carry it ...

Its mainly aimed at windscreen sealant on older cars ....

Kazjim is right- I knew it as butyl tape. It is available in roll form ( ie tape) in different widths and thickness- it has a liner to prevent it sticking together. I reckon an auto paint supply shop probably has it. You can use it to seal off holes etc. The local body repair place is likely to have it and they may give you a small amount.

kazjim/ mr. morlock, just got an update from Selley's. they recommend "black mastic" / butyl tape, but it's a bit difficult to remove later on down the track.
