Hi All,
I'm thinking of put in a 7" DVD GPS WIFI system in my NB8B ( this item: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2-DIN-7HD-SCREEN ... 255aac5880 ) - Can anyone share any experience? . Ie.
1. Is the current mount suitable for the 7" unit, also the depth of the unit - is it suitable for the NB ? any gap ?
2. Do I need to get a new wiring harness?
3. Can I plug the 3G modem directly into the USB slot or have to use the wifi dongle to 3G ( via 3G router )
4. Any Installation guide/ tips would be appreciated.
Cheers
Peter

If it's a standard Double DIN unit then it "should" fit. Given that this unit has no branding I'd be very suspicious about this.
2. Do I need to get a new wiring harness?
Definitely. If you're lucky it may conform to one of the major manufacturers wiring harnesses. If so, buy the appropriate harness converter since it's much easier than doing your own soldering. These adapter harnesses are available from places such as Supercheap and aren't too expensive.

Don't know.

There are useful guides around about removing the OEM radio, look at them before starting to remove it to ensure that you don't wreck your fascia getting the OEM unit out.
See http://www.miata.net/garage/nbaudio/index.html

There's another one too with great pictures that I used but can't find it anymore
Do you REALLY want this in your car? It's just inviting theft and I'm not sure that you'll use it much. These integrated devices are nowhere near as user friendly as dedicated GPS devices such as TomTom and Garmin. The "no-brand" really worries me too. How rugged is it?
Don't worry about dying, worry about not living!

Once you install this, I hope you don't plan to park your car in the street unsecured often. It could be a magnet for thieves.

just a friendly reminder, i bought a similar unit from a guy in melbourne, thinking it would be better for warranty, and the gps on the unit has stopped working after 2 months. getting it repaired is a pita. he asked me to send it back to china which i am not comfortable with....
you would be better off getting something local from a shop so you can claim the warranty if you have a problem with the unit.
about the unit, although it works with windows ce, main interface is still a program thats been written by some dude in china, and it is just not that well designed/written... and i have scanned the sd card that came with the unit and it had a virus in it...which i think is the reason why windows ce / gps has stopped working...
just my 2 cents...

I would suggest that you carry a light jacket in your car all the time.
Everytime I park, I just hang the jacket onto the rear view mirror and that seems to be the best way to 'hide' your 2-din system

Hi Peter,
Did you end up getting one from ebay?
I'm looking to do the same thing, but in an NA.
They're currently $280 shipped on eBay

As these do not come withthe maps, does anyone know how much these maps cost?
I've heard they are not cheap.

You're looking at about $320 with Australian maps on a 2GB SD + bonus 2GB USB. Though, your existing TomTom/Garmin/Mio maps should work fine.
