Changing cooling system hoses

Postby dmaccc » Sun May 16, 2010 12:14 am

Hi guys,

Got a new aluminum radiator installed for my NA and now getting leaks in the hoses. I got the car serviced and changed a hose or 2 and a few days later another hose leaked....
Trying to save abit of cash, so I wanna try changing all the hoses myself.

Still very new to all this so, anyone got any tips as to what hoses to get and what to look out for? How many hoses are needed to change?

Thanks in advance!

mx5parts.co.uk has a complete set of kevlar-reinforced hoses that is very good value for money.
Considerably cheaper than getting a full genuine Mazda set.

Are you placing the spring clips in the right places? you are supposed to place them just after the notch/hump on the respective pipe, not all the way at the end of the hose.

If you think the hoses are in good nick and wanting to get better clips, go for T-bolt clamps.

Hehe, nice. I was about to direct you to the link I got sent in the spilt heater hose thread but I'll assume you found it then.

I haven't received my hoses yet so I can't comment on the quality.

I bought a complete set of mazda genuine hoses off the bay a couple of weeks ago when the Aussie $ was 0.92ish

I've installed them all but my hands are pretty cut up. I find it helps to push the old hoses on further before pulling them off - breaks the seal and expands the hose a little.
