NC 2006 BOSE 6 stack Replacement

Postby Jolly Swagman » Tue Apr 06, 2010 7:54 am

I would like some advice on after market replacement of my BOSE head unit which has dismally failed after only 4 years. Oiginal ex Japan is $1,700! I can buy a replacement fascia panel from UK with standard DIn size openings. Replacement unit would need to be able to use the steering wheel control and wiring loom that is already here. Am I asking too much? Any help would be appreciated, as the car is in a million bits. :(

Ok.

a) I brought the face plate from UK and I got screwed. It doesn't come with the brackets etc.

b) I brought a metra MX5 face it which comes with the face and the brackets from USA. the link is http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Metra-99-7506-20 ... 439d4e0441

c) System will connect easy and you will be able to use the factory bose amp and speakers

d) You can connect your MX5 controls by using the right add-on. Once you know which head-unit you want look around on google. It can be done by a input in the back of the unit which is a remote input or can be done by inferred.

Ha ha. I have a face plate coming from the UK as we speak! Can't win them all. I;m not realy fussed on what head unit I use, as long as I can make it work with the bose amp that is there, and the steering wheel controls. Would you be prepared to provide a foto of how yours looked in the end after installation? Did you use plugs etc that would adapt to original Mazda unit? I guess I need to install After Market Equipment to original Equipment wireing, and I want to cut as few cables as possible. My car has been off the road for nearly 3 months as a result of all this shenanigans. It the 1st thing that has failed in more than 10 years of successive MX5 ownership. VC...

Thanks for that, looks impresive! I live in the Northern Territory about 2,500 klm from St Albans :) If you could point me in the direction of the wiring and head unit that was successful for you, there's a good chance I could install it my self. Otherwise, there is a possibility my wife could be driving down to Melb in 4 weeks. Does your installer do this for a living, or is he just a mate?

Hi Mate,

I'm not sure about the way the wires work. You may want to check other maita forums for this one.

The installer is a pro. He also did a headunit replacement in a RX8 for me which is very rare.

Hi There, Thanks again for that. Would you be able to supply a contact name and number for the installer? What head unit did you end up using? I've ordered a faceplate from the states. The one from the UK still hasn't turned up. must be coming by boat! Cheers, VC...
