supercharging an NB 1.6

Postby mx5cyprus » Mon May 03, 2010 10:56 pm

hello, i'm a new member here but i've be watching some topics for a while and i see people here have good technical knowledge. so here it goes: i have an NB 1998 model 1.6L currently with 2way limited slip carbonetics, flywheel and clutch kit carbonetics, DIY bmc carbon intake, headers, exhaust system and fuel pressure regulator. i decided to go on supercharger but it seems there isnt any kit for this model. i emailed performance5 but they said they currently cannot help me. i''m particularly interested in mp62 kits, as i saw some people at this forum have it on NA models. does anyone know where i can find a kit that fits my engine?
thanks, George

hey George can't really help with superchargers, but are you sure yours is a 1.6?

The only NB that came in a 1.6 was sold in Japan and AFAIK can't be registered here. So you're probably looking at a kit for a 1.8. There are a few supercharged NB8As running around.

does anyone knows if a kit for NA6 will fit on my engine? i'm not talking about the management, only the supercharger and its brackets etc.

Danny from MX5 plus has a NA which is Supercharged, I'm not sure if its an 8 or 6, He's also supercharging his RX8 as well as his NC rotary race car, so he would be the perfect person to ask and he may even be selling complete kits for the NA :|

Anyway he definately has the know how, and talent
Cheers

thanks mate :) the only issue that i'm concerned is that the engine of NA6 might be different than NB6 in matter of crank as the rest i can do custom work

George, a few forumites have run the NB6 engine in their MX5 here in Australia, although as noted above the NB6 was not Australian delivered. Here's a website & few threads that might help on the differences:

Hey George, thought I recalled someone running a NB6 engine here thinking about supercharging using the MP62 - see the following page in which jerrah makes a few inquiries, noting that his signature shows "NB6 engine + 4.1 Torsen":

be careful when using na6 design kits. often these will not work with later cars that have air conditioning and power steering. make sure you do your research. look for some kits in the UK i think they may have got the 1.6 nb model.

supercharging an NB 1.6

thnx again people, took me some time to reply cause of assignments and work on my dissertation at university. i've talked with Tom Van Dan Elzen from FastForwardSuperchargers.com and he told me they have kit for my engine . his reply email:

We have the kits available for 1990 through 2005 Miatas. Both 1.6L and 1.8L. Will you still want the extra injectors and controller ($3295USD plus shipping)? Or will you simply want the bare kit with no fuel management and no extra injectors ($2695USD plus shipping).

more info here:
http://www.fastforwardsuperchargers.com ... y.php?f=47

they say they will have it ready by june and after some thoughts i'm considering going for the full kit.

i send him an email but got the following reply:

Thank you for your email. Please read the following information, as there are some changes taking place at P5.

At the moment, we are inundated with work and as such am unable to cope with the amount of emails received whilst maintaining a decent level of customer service. As such, we are only responding to emails with regards to SportDrive suspension and frame rails.

From May, I intend to take at least 3 months sabbatical leave in order to have the time complete some ongoing projects and therefore unable to commit to any new bookings in the workshop unless it is in regards to suspension and frame rails.

Once again, I thank you for your email and am sorry I might not be able to help at this stage.

Kind regards
Phil
