shed cleaned and organised- mazda is in and up on stands.

spent the weekend removing roof, seats and carpet. Serious turd of a job. Everywhere I wanted to go there was cage in the way. Some of the seat bolts through the floor plan had to be angle grinded off. Luckily borrowed a comprehensive Sidchrome kit from a mate so have all sorts of offset spanners.

Walbro goes in this weekend. Didn't come with any fittings. Do I need anything or will it just bolt up to the old hardware?

I spoke to Lee, managing directer of AVO out at superlap yesterday, and they are bringing in a basic turbo package.

With a piggy back ECU and extra injecter, they think it'll be under 3k for the full kit.

Its got me thinking... hehehehe

Making a reliable track turbo setup will cost a decent bit more as I'm finding out.....

If they can get ADR approval for this one (like they did with the NA6) then they'll sell like hot cakes.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

thats it mate - Im wondering if I were to get this package....

1. how long would it last?
2. how long till I upgrade it?

It would certainly help me down the straights where I lack speed...although the reason I sold my turbo skyline was to save money..hmm...catch 22!

What sort of turbo conversion you going for?

I've got the manifold, turbo and dump-pipes for an SE or SP replica conversion. Plus I have some 460CC injectors. Still need a lot more though...

The cheap kit is still designed for a road car which isn't on boost the whole time like a track-dog. So you don't have the heating/fueling issues. I've been spending a great deal of time on the miataturbo.net website and there is a lot of great information on there for getting highly stressed motors to survive. I'll definitely be changing/altering my fuel rail, proper coolant re-route and most likely I'll save up and do forged rods/pistons. I'm still tossing up whether to do a 2F SE replica car or just have fun with it.... The SP manifold/turbo look significantly better for the fun side...but SE version keeps more options available. Nothings set in stone... still researching the cheapest way to have it engineered when I eventually do it and the current things I need to fix on the car to make it engineerable as is. Long term project :shock:

I wouldn't worry so much about going faster down the straights just yet to drop laptimes. The power just makes it easier to do damage while you learn the car. I'm really glad I didn't end up buying an SP as my first Mx5. There's no way I'd have been able to afford all the racing I've done if I was keeping one together. Not to mention how many times I've flown off a circuit as is without boost :mrgreen:

well, made a bit of progress on the weekend

Done the coolant and pws re-route- the new pws cooler is one sexy bit of kit!

even got to dummy fit the turbs/manifold (after massaging the chassis with the back of an axe)

I have cut the hose from the intake manifold to the brake booster too close to the check valve. Anyone got a new hose (front cut/wreck)?
