Hi,
Considering putting an aftermarket steering wheel on my NB8a. How easy is this to do considering the airbag? Does a boss kit to suit earlier MX-5 suit?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

it's illegal (not to mention stupid!) to remove the airbag so forget it, unless it's a dedicated track car.

I don't know if I would call it STUPID to remove it but you are removing a safety device which could save your life so definately better to have it on a road car and as said Aus wide it is illegal to replace a air bag steering wheel with a non air bag wheel. I doubt anyone gets pulled up on this on the road but if the car goes for an inspection they will probably pick up on that. There is no real point changing it unless it is a dedicated track car and your trying to shed every kilo you can.

f it was optional it is not required that you have it. Does anyone know if either airbags where optional? And what year was it standard for both or just driver?

Never an option, always standard at least on Aussie cars anyway. All NB's had both passenger and driver.
Behind the wheel there is just a normal steering spline which can take a hub such as a Momo, so it is certainly possible, just not road legal.

Pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever.
