Space Saver for Sports Brakes

Hi I have late model NB sports brakes on my NA,the space saver won't fit. I have been told that all space savers are the same :? . What do late model NB's with the larger brakes use for a spare.Can anyone help.

not too sure which late model you are talking about. that could be the SE which had 17" rims. i would assume it'd have 17" space savers too.

the 2000-2004 NB's had 16" wheels so they would have 16" space savers i would think.
i can't brain today.. i have the dumb..

if you have a puncture at the front you have to put the oem rear wheel onto the front then put the space saver onto the rear wheel....
every ounce counts

Stock spacesaver in my NB8B is a 15 inch rim.
Looking on the MX5 Mania site, the SE and the NB8B appear to share the same rotors and pads, therefore a 15 inch spacesaver should fit a SE.

This works as the caliper on the rear is smaller and should clear the smaller rim.

mania lists a 14" and 15" as a spare.

i think de bounce is right. sounds like SE's and nb8b's and onwards run the 15"
i can't brain today.. i have the dumb..

doesnt matter if its 15" 16" or 17" space saver the rubber has stupid profile, the space saver must still fit within the same space in the boot.
The car leens on a angle when the space saver is put on.
My lowered car only doesn't clear speed bumps with the space saver on :cry:

if it didn't matter then mazda would be putting in 14" space savers in all the cars..... to save money :roll:

my englash so poor

im trying to say even if they give you (ie it doesnt matter) a 17" rim for a space saver the profile of the rubber is tiny tiny and the overall diameter in toal must still in fit the boot ie the round cavity that is carved out of the booot for it.

We all know the oem rim cant fit into the boot when you have a flat you have to put it into the passenger seat. the space saver's overall diameter is much lesser than the oem wheel.

thats why when i tryied to put the space saver on (the wheel does weigh less than any volk or enkei i have encountered i had to try it on :)) the car sits lower and is kida tilted to one side.

once again soory for poor englash skill

All Nbs from about Oct. 2000 including the SE came with the 15 inch space saver.
NC Roadie, NC Racey, ND Racey….and a 30AE

Plus several others in the bone yard...

could maybe find a larger space saver & mount it on the bottom of the boot.

put a air valve extension on it though, that'd be a major hassle to repressure as it is.

When did you last get a flat? :? I can't remember the last time I had one, and I don't remember ever having to change a tyre at the side of the road... Buy a can of that goo that seals the tyre and be done with it. There are plenty of cars around with no spare at all from the factory, just a can of sealant....

space save got removed from the car a couple of weekends ago to make room for a tool box to lock my tools in :)

Here's a scenario for you....

...You're on your way for a weekend away with your girlfriend/boyfriend/partner, driving your fairly stock standard NA or NB riding on wicked 17" alloy wheels. You plan to do a lot of activities - hence why your car is packed.

Half-way there you get a flat. You thought to yourself, "Lucky me I have a space-saver spare, unlike those poor sods driving NCs". :lol:

You and/or your GF/BF/partner replace the flat 17" alloy wheels. All is going well, until you realise, the flat 17" alloy wheel won't fit back in the boot with your all your gear.


What do you do? :?

That's the reason I always keep a couple of occy straps handy, in case I have to secure the boot whilst open. Either that or a sh!t load of duct/gaffer tape. :mrgreen:
