hey all
im really tempted to buy the sp turbo kit floating around on the forums, however i do have a few q's about it... hope u guys can help!
firstly, with intercooler piping, do i need to hole saw out some holes for it to fit or will the SP piping fit around the nb8a perfectly? im sure there is some hacking of the front bar to do!
secondly, apart from the clutch, will the gearbox/diff/axles hold up with ~130-150kws?
is the factory turbocharger any good or should i ditch it for something like a hks2530?
If i decide to upgrade brakes (probably will have to), will the nb8b or sp brakes clear 15x8 +15 wheels?
thats all i can think of at the moment (way past my bed time)

edit: or would it be more feasible to simply go buy myself a hail damaged/written off sp and swap drivelines over?

Buy it before i do.
G/box, diff, etc will be fine. I have about that power and it is still going strong. If you can afford it get the new turbo. I use nb8b brakes and they are plenty good enough, and they fit in 15x8's.

Wont need to cut any metalwork.

More or less.
The SP didnt have special gearbox/diff/axles, unless you give it heaps you'll be OK.

The factory turbo is a great unit. Basically what is sold as a garret gt2560r, very similar to a ball bearing 200sx turbo and pretty much spot on for the mx5. For the power you want, no need to upgrade, can make good power with the stock turbo, lots of SPs on here proving that.

I beleive so, SP didn't have upgraded brakes, same as nb8b brakes, although some reportedly had upgraded brake pads, I beelvie they were cars that were orignally destined to bemedia test mules.
Do a bit of searching on here - The SP is very much a bolt on kit fitted to cars with a stocky body/suspension, brake etc package. The advantge is it was/is factory supported and had warranty, and relatively cheap insurance.
I know I know, SP owners will flame my description of it being a bolt on kit, but more ir less the point I'm making is there is nothing too exotic or different outside of the engine bay. FWIW, I'd own an SP... Maybe Dave, Benny or Garry want to donate one to my cause?

ok i ended up buying that turbo kit... will the stock clutch do ok on the dyno? it doesnt slip at all nor does it smell after a good thrashing... i know i will need one pretty soon, any recommendations?

Many SP owners had to address the clutch, I think some went for an SE clutch and had a good result. There are tons of them, I got the Exedy Cushion Button in the end, seems to work.... no slip, but my car doesnt make huge power.

I have the SE clutch in my SP, and it works fine.
The only reason I changed from the original, was that my engine was re-built and so I thought I'd change it while the engine was out.
I could have lived with the standard clutch for a while longer, but it was shuddering and giving me the ss's.
I didn't go for a puck type clutch as I wanted something light and easy as Mrs Benny likes to drive it too.

Did you buy the SE kit for sale? There is no SP kit for sale that I can see?
There are no storm damaged SPs currently for sale. Unless you can provide a link?
