MX-5 Hire Tasmania - FOUND

Postby kitkat » Wed Apr 07, 2010 9:49 pm

For those interested in driving an MX-5 'round Tasmania (which we should all know by now is a MUST) www.launcestoncarhire.com.au have an NB available to hire at a very very very reasonable price! After doing the sums, for QLD'ers this is great as its cheaper for us to fly to Launnie and hire a car rather than drive down.

I'm in no way affilliated with the company, just a happy customer (just got back from a 10 day trip showing off our 6 month daughter to the rest of the wife's family). Because of that we had to hire a corolla (shudder :| ) for the majority of the time but we did indulge in some drop top action and hired their Alfa Romeo Spider for a day (we spent 2 weeks in our old MX-5 driving around Tassie several years ago). The Alfa was as slow as an mx5 but suprisingly handled quite well and was a joy to drive... we took it up Cethana, down to Wilmot, across to Castra then eventually ulverstone, simply put there wasnt a dull moment.

Just a couple tips... Leaners and P platers are limited to 80kmh. On the 110kmh main highway they are adundant and frustrating. Solution - Take the B roads
Dont just follow the tourist routes... take randon turns, its amazing what roads you can end up on!

Hopefully this isnt a repost and someone finds it helpfull. :D

Cheers,
Kitkat & Familly

wheels where a little heavy and HUGE!!.. But i will take a MX5 over a GETZ any day.
Most people hire there Euro cars, so they just informed me they do the MX5 even cheaper now.

It was like $80 a day , unlimited K's.

Thanks dweezle... looks like you had a blast. They seem to have gathered a great range of cars in very short time and the MX5 has gotten allot cheaper very quickly (when i first found the site a couple months ago it was down to $65... now its $50).

Yep, still lurkin Jules. Wingzzz sounds great and be great to catch up!

Sorry to revive an old thread but that website's down(launcestoncarhire.com.au), and I'm having trouble finding mx5s to rent in Tas. Would anyone know where to start?

Budget Car Rentals in Hobart have a white ND for rental. It doesn't appear on their website but I've seen it in their driveway and met it one day at Peppermint Bay.

This makes so much sense for a rental firm. Relatively cheap to buy. Same to service as a Mazda 3. Low depreciation and a ready market for used ones.
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

That's awesome. While my eyes are bleeding from the wheels... I'd hire that in a heartbeat next time I go to Tassie... which is frequently... And I'm dying to get my car down there one day.

Thanks for that, will send them an email! It'll be a good chance to try out the ND :)

Similar logic for the 86 rentals a few of the majors were doing, and they were only $10 or so more than a Corolla. Autos, alas, but you take what can get.

For reference, I forget the company, but I looked briefly at MX5 rental in tassie the other night.

the price was $600 for an ND picked up from Launceston on a Friday afternoon, and dropped back off on Monday morning.
1999 Mazda MX5 - 1989 Honda CT110 (for sale) - 1994 Mazda 626 wagon (GF's)

Update: I saw an ND in the Budget depot and assumed they hired them. Unfortunately they don't (don't ask me what it was doing there!).
http://www.overdrivecarhire.com.au/ have the ND for a minimum two-day rental.

Cheers
