The longer shock bodies are for the front. The shorter shock bodies are for the rear.
The higher the perch, the higher the ride will be. NA or NB?

If you have an NA, I would not recommend the lowest perch on the rear, unless you have top mounts that give you extra suspension travel (not sure if it a problem on the NB). On my NA, my Koni/King springs were originally set up on the standard top mounts on the lowest perch and my car had no suspension travel - it was on the bump stops, so it was very bouncy and potentially dangerous when driving on bumpy roads.
if you are wondering what I mean by different top mounts - http://www.flyinmiata.com/index.php?deptid=4537&parentid=0&stocknumber=13-57100%20%2010MM
there should be plenty of threads on here about the suspension travel problem on the rear. You can see my top mounts here - http://mx5cartalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=40374

^agree
I went from middle to top perch on mine and the improvement in ride quality was astounding. I would not recommend anything lower than top perch for the rear unless you have shortened bump stops and/or upgraded rear top mounts.

CHEERS GUYS !
Basically there are two ways to do this.
1. Completely remove springs and shock aborbers as a single package from the car. Use a spring compressor to remove the springs. You can then move the 'C' clip that supports the perch. Compress the springs, re-fit them to shock absorber and reinstall the completed package. Note the use of a spring compressor by an novice is not recommended, seek help of an experienced person or a professional.
2. Follow the link below and use the instructions for removing the shocks without using a compressor. As you only want to adjust the perch height you can leave the shock absorber attached to the bottom mount and still remove the spring to gain access to the 'C' clip and move it. I used this method two weeks ago to move the front and rear perches.
