Thanks Cheyne
As for the boot spoiler... Hmm, never been really sure if the mx5 is really a boot spoiler kind of car. If it had some 6UL 15x8s (or even the oem 14s) fitted then maybe I would do that but its not really the look I'm going for. I don't think the wheels I've got would really suit it and I'm not changing the wheels!

I haven't really done too much to the car lately, i've tweaked the wheel alignment to get the car handling just as I want it, painted the lip spoiler and just today fitted a sticker license plate. Otherwise I've been just enjoying it whenever possible It's been on a few club runs, lugged camera gear around and for the first time since Winton in Feb 2009 it went out on a race track
I went down to an Events O'neil track day at Sandown to take some photos, however later in the day most of the guys were going home... With thanks to Luke who runs these events I managed to get myself out on the track and do at least 15 or so laps over two sessions. Awesome fun on a pretty much deserted track. I only had 3 cars for company, a Ferrari 599, 997 Porsche 911 GT3 and a 997 911 Turbo! I had one of their instructors in the car, it was Nick Percat who dominated the Formula Ford championship last year and is racing V8s this year. Of my car he said it felt like a Formula Ford only with more grip, of my driving he said the only thing I could do better was brake later. After a few more laps I was getting there with that (overcoming the car feeling like it wants to swap ends on you), until I started to suffer a bit of brake fade (possibly due to old fluid -I also need to fit those 1.8 brakes under my bed!-) and began to cook the tyres. It was a great fun afternoon, the way its set up it feels awesome out on the track! I've caught the bug and will be back out again this year! I was also pretty impressed that there were no ill effects in going out and wringing the cars neck on a track. The only noticable difference was that a couple of mm tyre tread wore away along with some meat off the brake pads.
(In the pit lane after the track closed)

It was pretty epic to be driving the car as hard as I could yet get blasted past down the straights like I was standing still! I was hitting 170kph down the end of the main straight yet it felt like I was doing 60 when one of those guys went past! Although I managed to stick with the GT3 from the esses at the end of the back straight to the last turn which was pretty cool, I was gaining a little under braking and into the corners only to completly loose him down the straight.
He was pretty complimentary of the MX-5, the only flaw is that you can really feel the lack of an LSD when you start to push harder... Money can fix that though...

I'd be careful with a sticker plate. The fine is over $200 nowadays. (I got done a couple of times many, many years ago).

Hmm. It's exactly the same dimensions as a slimline victorian plate, the same font too. I'll have to have a read and a think about keeping it or not. Looks pretty damm cool though, really cleans up the look of the front of the car.

Does it reflect light like the regular plate, though?

Good question. I would think not but I will fire off a flash at it tonight. As far as speed cameras and the like thats only really important on the back though. I needed a new plate as my old one is stuffed which motivated the decision to get one of these. I think this one is better than any other i've seen on an mx before as at least it is the correct size, has the outline etc.

Get a new slimline.
I remember being followed by a marked police car around a shopping centre before fining me (ain't a pleasant experience). Fine was $130 ten years ago. Two prior times (yes, I got fined 3 times in total in a year), it was only $50.

Hmm... For the time being I have put my plate and bracket in the tunnel behind the spare wheel so if the constabulary see fit to question me regarding the plate I can go straight to humble and offer to refit the plate then and there.
On an a side note I found a new use for the car this morning... Milk truck

Pretty quiet on the MX-5 front lately, nothing much has changed... With the arrival of 'Car B' viewtopic.php?f=53&t=41823 I haven't had as much time to tinker with it either.
The only things of note are that i've fitted a fire extinguisher in preperation for trackdays (just need to try and stop the extinguisher nosle at the top from rattling) and I'm getting some BF Goodrich G force Sport tyres fitted to my 16' wheels to replace the toyos. They're fairly cheap and good value compared to tyres in the same price range and from all accounts I've read they're a good road tyre. I figure that if they're owned by Michelin they can't be that bad. It'll be interesting to try them out.
And incase anyone was wondering if it is possible to fit a ladies mountain bike (that crucial bit smaller than a mens mountain bike) in an mx5 and drive accross the city I can answer yes as long as its not raining.
