Stopped at the lights at the start of Eastlink yesterday and thought I better wind up the driver's window before hitting the long run at 100kph. Eeek! Nothing happening! Passenger side window works, so no bung fuse, but driver's side is stuck down. Ah well, nothing can be done about it until I get home. Of course then it rains while the car is sitting in the car park at work.
Had a squizz at things this morning. Can hear a click from inside the door when I press the 'down' side of the rocker, but not the up. Decided to dismantle the console thingy and have a look at the switch. Removed switch cluster assembly from console and then dismantled the switch itself. Severe contact scorching observed. Big build up of Carbon from contact arcing. Removed the switch rockers and cleaned them and same for the contacts themselves. Reassembled the whole thing and it's all working fine. Might look at putting a snubber network on the switch to reduce the arcing, but then again, the switch is now 20 years old, so if it's another 20 years before it needs to be done again - who cares?

Dave, apparently that scorching slows down window operation initially, but as you say eventually leads to no movement at all.
