Blu ant for cars Brand suggestion

Any suggestions for a good brand of Blu Ant or other portable Bluetooth devices

Will be swapping daily drives between the MX and another vehicle

Also , has anyone made one that can transmit over your radio signal and utilise the in car stereo ?

I have a Blue Ant Supertooth 3. It works extremely well even with the roof down (side windows up).



It comes with 2 visor mounts (left clipped on the visor) which the unit simply attaches to using magnets. I regularly swap it between my MX5 and Pajero (That is until I got my 2nd unit a Uniden BTSC 1500 - see below).

It also support a lot of modern phone functions, like voice dialing. So I simply have to touch the call button once, the unit will prompt me (it even gives you an option on the voice - which accent and sex), then I simply say the command (ie. "Call") and name of the person / business that is already in my phone. Then it dials it. So it's trully a hands free set.

And when someone calls you, it will say the name of the caller (provided they're in your phone already and/or not private).


I recently purchased the Uniden BTSC 1500 which I got really cheap from catchoftheday.com.au. I'm trully impressed. It's slightly smaller and looks sexier than the Supertooth3, but it's not as easy to clip on and off as the BlueAnt. The clip is attached to the unit (and they only supply one). Though the unit has a blue backlit OLED display which displays status and numbers vividly. After 10mins of inactivity it will blank out - saving battery power.

It too supports modern phone functions, like voice dialing. And can support up to two different phones simultaneously.

I now have the Uniden in my MX5 due to its lighter weight (better for the flimsier visor of the 5) and left the BlueAnt in my Pajero.



I'm happy with either one but If I had to buy another one now, I'll get the Uniden - so long as the price is right.

I also have a Blue Ant Supertooth 3.
It normally lives attached to my NB's sun visor and has not created any problems.

As stated by Hammer, it works well and comes supplied with two visor clips with the unit attaching to the clip with magnets.

If you want to transfer the device from one vehicle to the other, this mounting method might be the best.

I sell Bluetooth devices and recommend the Supertooth 3 as well. There is also a new S1 Blueant that is slightly cheaper that would suit.

They work at their best when on the visor as you should be looking up at the road when you drive. You will lose performance if mounted lower.

The ST3 is $149 RRP
The S1 is $129 RRP

I am sure someone will point you towards a cheaper online alternative.

I use the blueant - works perfectly, I charge it about four times a year, loud enough and sensitive enough to use with the top down

I got my BlueAnt ST3 from JB Hi-Fi when they first came out. Cost me $119 when it was on special. They might be cheaper now.

The Uniden cost me $49.95 from catchoftheday.com.au during one of their usual 24hr specials. I think they usually retail for about $120 or so it says when I bought it.

My head unit has bluetooth but for some reason it seems like its incompatible with my Nokia 5800 but it worked fine with my previous Nokia 6110 :S
And I thought the idea behind bluetooth was to make things compatible and work together

One of the guys at work has the same problem with his Telstra rebranded phone, it doesn't work with his Navman bluetooth :S

They do power down when not connected to a unit for more than 10mins. But it's a simple single button push when you hop in the car and it will automatically pair each time (after the initial pairing is done).

hmmm was just thinking I'd have a bit of trouble with these units if I was to get one unless I remember to switch it off everytime

Seeing as the car gets parked in the garage and my phone usually stays in the room next to the garage I'd probably stay connected to the unit all the time

That could be a problem with the Blu Ant ST3 as it has a good 10 metre range.
If you move out of range it disconnects, then reconnects when back in range (takes about two minute).
It does not switch itself off when not connected but has a 800 hour stand by time.
If it is connected and you hear it ring, you should be able to redirect the call to the handset.
