NB Front Wheel Bearings torque setting?

Well it looks as though these track days have taken its toll on my front wheel bearings. The front left is the only one making a noise at the moment, but i may as well change both sides.

Now looking at the setup, can you purchse the bearing seperatley or is it a sealed unit? Am i looking at $300 a side or is there cheaper alternatives?

Also do i need a press to push the bearing assy onto the stub axle? or can i do it at home?

Regie, If you had an NB8A (I.e no ABS) I could get you a wheel bearing kit for less then half that price, unfortunately there is a difference between the two, and I am unable to get you one through my work (CBC bearings).

I paid $237.60 for 2 new ABS bearings in early January.
08/01/2010 06/01/2010 XXXX CONSOLIDATED BEARING EAGLE FARM $237.60-

Technically, I believe the non ABS bearings can have the old ABS ring slipped onto them, but the ABS kit includes a new one.
The advice I rxed from CBC was if I installed the non ABS Bearing with the old ring then they would void the warranty, hardly worth saving the $10 a bearing for that.

They can usually overnight the stock too if they don't have any.

You can do it at home if you have a huge flower off tool to get the nut off the hub, otherwise it will be an hour tops in labour to get a slow mechanic to do it.

EDIT: just re read RG.Nets reply, CBC in Brisbane had the ABS bearings in overnight for me, I picked them up and progressed straight to MXPlus (ORX626) and his magic men had them both in in half an hour.

Mmm,

It could be possible that we have discontinued this particular kit, as I don't show any stock anywhere in Australia (which generally means we don't stock it).

Edit: doing a bit of ringing around, I'll see what I can come up with.

Edit #2 Philz is right, the hole hub needs to be replaced (well that's how they are sold) UNLESS you do what spy has described.

Spy, do you recall giving Eagle Farm a part number? Or did you take the hub to them and measure it all up to get the bearing that was needed?

If you have the invoice lying around I would be able to snatch the part number and see what I can find with it.

$108.00 each plus GST $9.60 Which I believe was a pretty rock n' roll price

I believe it was either a Timken or an NTN, the box and the old bearings went in the recycling at MX-5 Plus.

My right bearing was noisy with little play, the left was quiet with some degree of play, so they both got done at the same time for piece of mind.

Oh! and a Genuine hub kit from Mazda . . . . over $800 EACH

Well as edited in the previous post, i can get these made up for him and will be a whole replacement hub, it will cost a tad more but its still alot cheaper then $300 or even $800 each side. It is the same part number you have been supplied with, but its the fact that is no stock around.

I also had a noisy bearing and took the car to Heasmans to get both of them replaced.
If you only do one, sure as night follows day, after a week or so, you'll need to do the other too.

They rang me up and said that the OEM bearings were about $580 for the pair, but they can get me some very good aftermarket ones for only $340(?) for the set.

Obviously I told them to use the aftermarket ones, and I haven't heard a whimper out of them, so they must be OK.
I must say, that Heasmans are very good like that.
They won't use any dodgey parts, but they know where to get good quality replacements (bearings, bushes, sway bars etc.) at a reasonable cost.

I now have the bearing assys in my hot little hand. I shall be fitting them this week sometime. Is there any certain torque that the hub nuts have to be tightened??
