Greetings.
Have been doing some research and came up with the above as the ideal roll bar for me. It has apparently been tested by an engineer and came up well. It also has good reviews from contented USA owners.
Any opinions either way on this particular roll bar ? Anyone actually got one ?
Have made initial inquiries regarding freight cost, and found Gomiata won't ship one to Oz, and another MX5 specialist wants nearly US$500 freight.
Any ideas on ways of getting it to WA at a reasonable cost ?

The problem with sourcing something as bulky as a roll bar from the US is exactly what you just mentioned - freight costs. Havent heard of anyone here with one, but i could be wrong.
If you're after a double hoop roll bar, have to considered the MX5 Plus one?

Nick, Just a comment on shipping, it seems Australia Post is recently more strickly enforcing its 105cm maximum length rule. This has impacted on USPS shipping of NA front lower lips in particular, with USPS shipping going from US$70 odd, to just over US$100, to just over US$200 in the space of a few months. As a result it seems only UPS or Fedex or similar can be used to ship to Oz & from what I've seen they're very expensive. My only suggestion is buying from a private US seller, who might be able to swing USPS shipping, whereas I think commercial US sellers won't waste time even trying, which is understandable. As a very rough guide, I just measured the width of a Brown Davis rollbar as 120cm approx.

Some of the co's mentioned are simply premium freight forwarders. You can get anything sent airfreight within reason - large machines ( tonnes) etc are frequently sent air depending on urgency and same applies for raw materials etc etc
To get anything sent you have to cooperation from the seller. If they only use a particular service you are very restricted. If they willl not pass the goods to your forwarder then you could have someone else to buy it for you- and this is getting complicated and stretches a friendship.
I would contact a local international freight forwarding co with offices in USA and ask them what are your options You might even be better to go an talk to them. You will need to know both the weight and the size of the product- dimensions will give an idea of what box or carton will be used. Freight is either based on weight or calculated wt ( dims of box) - whichever is the higher Forwarders will pack it for you - it is not a hard ask. It may even be a proposition to get it marine if the forwarder is doing any consolidation work in the expected port of discharge but you can also get caught with inland freight as well..
There are other options but some of those revolve around knowing someone regularly shipping from USA with established contacts.
My guess is that a locally made roll bar made for racing purposes is going to be quite suitable for the track. A local product in theory is going to be a cheaper proposition.

I was thinking this was a proper roll bar like the ones made in Bayswater for track work. That should not be hard to freight- quite a compact product.

I was enquiring about the same a few years ago and they were very helpful and honest with telling me that although they are more than willing to pack and ship, it would cost alot.
From memory, the guy (I think he was the proprietor) said the most cost effective way to ship is to get a few people interested and ship 3 or 4 bars together as it only costs another $50-$100 more to ship 3 or 4 bars ontop of the price of 1.
But once again, this was about three years ago.
I think they are the best looking roll-bar, but after seeing the design of C.A.R.'s Speed Racer Decklid, in the end I went with the MX5-Plus double-hoop.
