Toyota 20v throttle bodies on B6.

Toyota 20v throttle bodies on B6.
Got my 1.6 up and running today after three months of slowly getting components and assembly work done.
Engine hasn't had its tune yet and requires an airbox to be made up with trumpets.
Just glad the thing ran.
Rebuilt a standard head with new double valve springs, and new lifters.
The cams were sent up to Tighe's and built up and profiled with a 1045 grind whatever that is.
It was suggested to be the right grind for the type of running it gets.
Hillclimbs and sprints.
Cams have 10.7mm of lift which required a fair bit of material to be removed to gets the cams to clear the head.
Next was a gasket kit and a set of throttle bodies off Ebay, which required the fitment of the Mazda TPS which is different to the Toyota one.
Had to modify the throttle cable pull direction as it was setup to pull from the front of the engine.
Manifold required minor trimming to get to fit engine bay of the clubman.
Also swapped loom of Mazda injectors straight onto Toyota injectors so that was a bonus.
Nozzs throttle body adaptor manifold took a while to receive and needed some modification to match up the ports.
Required 2-3mm to be ground out of each port to match both the Toyota and Mazda porting.
Was going to make one but couldn't compete with their price ($225.00 landed).
Made a gasket to suit the throttle bodies as i couldn't find anyone that had one available.
Anyway, the computer needs to tuned to the new throttle bodies and cams.
Computer is a Microtech LT-8.
Engine also has an Fidanza Aluminium flywheel for a bit of increased response, and some modified Jasma extractors (4-2-1).
Looking forward to giving it a run.

Clubbie is a Locost which i built from the ground up.
Mx5 5speed gearbox, Holden Piazza diff.
Has been running the B6 for about four years now.
Was making 105rwhp last time it was dynoed.
Hope to get up to 120 at least.
Nice to beat the guys with the 4age's.

A little on the fat side for a clubbie.
Should of put it on a diet when i built it.

Also interested in dyno numbers. This is something I am considering perhaps for later this year. I have a dead 20V in my AE92 which I'll be replacing so will have the throttle bodies. Would likely sell the AVO stage 3 kit to fund an "all motor" rebuild on a B6 or BP.

if you don't mind me asking what was the quality of the adapter plate like - I read you had to do some mods, I guess it is better that metal needs removing than adding. did the holes match the head and toyota manifold okay?
I have AE101 throttle bodies in my garage waiting to go on the car, I am considering making a custom manifold, but also considering the adapter because it is simpler.

Toyota 20v throttle bodies on B6.
Manifold accuracy was pretty good apart from the port matching.
They machine it parallel internally and take it out with a rotary burr.
My one needed more material taken out to match properly.
Apart from a welded repair that had been done everything else was well machined.
Other problem was adaptor was bubble wrapped and put in a courier prepaid bag.
Adaptor came looking like it had been someones doorstop for a couple of weeks.
Had to clean up the burrs and dents from where it broke through the bag.
Otherwise, for the price, it was cheap.
Material alone was going to be the $170.
Adaptor cost me $175US + $50 US postage.
Noticed they have since bumped up price.
There website is playing up so cant get current price.
Only other thing you need are studs for mounting throttle bodies.

Have to get the tune done next and its ready for racing.
Fingers crossed it'll make Sandown for Easter.

That should be a great set up, I didnt know Tighe was using the 1045 grind on B6 engines. I used to race a Sports 1300 and we trialled a Suzuki GTI engine and I used the 1045 cam grind with solid lifters ( we had to run carbs so it had twin 45 webbers) but made awesome power and verry drivable.If your B6 is half as good you will be very happy. The manifold looks great too. enjoy

My old MT8 Micrtech wasn't really designed with these in mind.
The Toyota throttle bodies use a three wire valve which my ECU cant control.
Apparently later ones can.
Have to fit a Nissan two wire type when i find out what model car they come off.
Have booked the car in for a tune in two weeks time so have a little bit of time to finish off the setup.
Getting there slowly.
