Umm.... How has a NA8 been imported? I can't believe that anyone would have bothered to bring one in as a private import given that you could always get one here anyway

My car is a personally imported and complianced NA8 from NZ. The previous owner bought it over with him when he moved here to live.

Yeah but if you were living in Japan for a year and planned on bringing back a car surely you'd get something that wasn't sold new here.

Is it a Torsen that the Jap spec cars got?

I agree.

If it's a late 93, it could have possibly been imported under the 15 year old rule just before it finished?

Hey guys, yeah it beats me why they would have brought one in also but didn't the JDM version have a bit more power than the aussie release? In the manual for it it says it has a capacity of 1840cc. What is the AU version got?

I did a lttle research on the diff and turns out it is a Torson 4.3 center diff. i'm not quite sure what that is but i'm glad i've got one already.

Got bored this arvo and put my numbers on the side

15 year rule never went beyond 89/90

Having numbers on the side of your car is a guaranteed way of getting pulled over.

Not necessarily. I've dríven road registred race cars around Brissie for two years now and never been pulled over. I might only drive them once a month on the road, but I've dríven past plenty of police vehicles, and as long as you're behaving youself, them they really don't have a reason to pull you over. I do however have a mod plate fitted for the setas, harnesses and roll cage :)

Thank you for worrying guys :) . I will eventually take it off the road when rego runs out in May. But i decided to keep the rego on instead of taking it off straight away so i can still drive it to get work done. As for the numbers, I see plenty of cars like that, but as TCR said as long as you are behaving yourself they have no reason too harass you. As for the seat I do have the original seat in and seatbelt the other one takes about 10 mins to install anyway so no prob on trackday

Did my first run at Lakeside on Sunday. As this was my first tme out in the new car i was a bit hesitant to give it much on the first run out. I went out there and decided to learn what the car can and cannot do. On the first run i ran into a lot of traffic a lot of the time, mostly by a frigin Honda S2000, and only getting 1.15:4. Run 2 and 3 i got progressively better but still ran into traffic just when i thought i was having a good run, times were 1.13:3 and 1.12:1 respectfully. On the final run of the day i got a clear run for most of the laps and on the final lap pushed a little harder and came u with a 1.11:38. I was stoked with this time as it is faster than i had been in my SP20 an yet i had maybe put in 40% effort to get it there. I know that the car can be pushed a lot harder and i know where i can improve. So i sprint again this weekend and hope to push it into the 1.10's and further (a lot further).

Competed in open sprints today at Lakeside. Turned out to be a beautiful day... Until the rain came and went, then came and went proving a luck of the draw when your run came up. However first run of the day i put a little more confidence in my tyres and came through with a 1.10:3 taking a full second of my PB. But as usual it took til the last run of the day to bust through the 1.10 mark and post a 1.09:6 as a final send off to the day. I would be keen to hear from some of you guys in the production series as to what kinds of tyres you use just as a reference to see the variety and what rubber you put trust in.

Cheers Dean

Most of the MX5s that run in Production Sports Cars use the Toyo R888s. I've been using these for two years now and manage to get about 12 months out of each set. Unfortunately they have become a bit expensive, $318 each, and they can really only be sourced through Tyretech at Albion.

Heres the list of eligible tyres for Production Sports Cars:

Hey all, since my last post i've done a lot of research and had a few little things done to improve the car a little. I had the car in at mx5 plus for a check up as the car is getting on a bit, 231000+ kms, most of the seals were on the way out and the car needed a tune as well so i left it for the week while the engine was pulled out and a few major things looked at. Turns out there wasn't much wrong with it apart from the seals and they even advanced the timing to 12 which gave it a bit of a different feel, but in a good way. I also found on my last run that the clutch was slipping, so after a thousand posts being read i decided to get a heavy duty clutch and NA6 flywheel put in. Best money spent in regards to performance. I love the result, i'd recomend it for any NA8 owner to do, drivability is so much better and acceleration is amazing compared to what it was like. I was down at the MX5 track day having a bit of a squiz at most of the cars and i loved seeing how simple it was to get one of these cars to a point where there was a minimal amount done to them and still able to be very competitive and achieve sub 65sec passes or better. Will have to come and see/chat to most of you next time. Will be sprinting again on the 16th hoping the new timing, clutch and newly learnt lines through eastern loop improve my times. Last sprint i did while the 5 was in the shop i did with my SP20 and broke my PB by 1 sec, now 1.08:78, i only have to to get the 5's time down half a sec to beat this. I'll let you know if i can get it there or not.
