Radio with Amnesia

Hello folks,

Sometimes when i switch off my car, and then switch it back on, my car radio forgets the radio stations i store in it.

Is this a battery problem? Or have I not wired up the audio correctly?

Also, as an aside (not audio related), the motor for my pax electric window squeals whenever i raise/lower the window. It basically sounds like the gears that turn need a good greasing up. I have tried to take out the motor to have a look at the gears but the pax window and one of the beams supporting the quarter window is interfering with its removal. Has anyone had this problem? (And a fix for it)?

not wired correctly or poor connection. there is a constant +12V wire which needs to be connected separate to ACC switched power.

battery problem would be obvious - car won't start.

As already mentioned the memory is retained by a constant 12v feed. A bad connection can cause loss of radio memory, or you may have chosen a 12v feed that is switched, or the fuse on the constant 12v feed has blown. Should be easy to track down.

As for the window....the guide channels for the glass could be dry. Get yourself some silicon grease in either a spray or a tube and lube the channels. I prefer the spray as I can reach more places with minimal (if any) need to dismantle the doors.

yup, checked that, and it's definitely coming from the motor. i tried spraying the guide channels with white lithium grease but that hasn't resolved the squealing

The constant +12V wire on the head unit is typically a solid yellow wire. Just use a test light or a multimeter to locate a constant 12V source, like the positive feed of the interior lights. I use silicone spray on my window guides too.

Easy solution.

You connected the contant and the acc cables the wrong way around.

Constant is the 12V connector usually yellow, and its the memory of the car.

The acc turns the car head unit on, when you got the car in ignition.

The reason why its not saving, is because you got the cables the wrong way around, and its not saving the memory.

Its either that,or your fuse is gone. Check the fuse for car audio.

I had the same problem with my car when I wasn't driving it very often. Even though the car would start the battery wasn't at its best, since charging it, I no longer have the problem.

Is this a factory headunit or an aftermarket one?

Did you replace the headunit or remove it or do anything to it ever since it started
