Spacers

I need to get a set of 5 or 6mm slip-ons to allow my SSR wheels to clear my front brakes.

A) Should I be able to use stock studs with a thin spacer like this

B) Anyone know of anywhere that sells good ones?

I have a set already but they are multistud and have elongated holes and are big enough in diameter that they only have about 1mm clearance from the calliper and only when you've stuffed around to get them to sit exactly centred when you get the wheel on, hard to explain, hard to do and basically I just wouldnt trust these ones, I want some that are 4x100 only

I got some 5mm ones in Japan, they work fine with the standard studs but I probably wouldn't go much bigger. Mine are multi stud but the diameter is exactly the same as the back of my wheels. From memory they have a combination of elongated holes and round holes so there easy to centre. I've seem some at Autobarn but they might be the same as what you've already got.

I hope you relaise that it is illegal to use spacers on the street.

Mind you, I know a few guys that do use them and have never been pulled up for it.

However, having said that, if you are to use wheel spacers, get some longer bolts, just for piece of mind.
I know of someone who put spacers on his car and just used the standard bolts, and took it to the track, and had a wheel come off on the first lap!
He was so lucky that they didn't fall off when driving to the track on the freeway!

It was a bit messy as it broke the disk and caliper on that wheel, and he was lucky it didn't dig in and roll the car.
It ended up costing him somewhere north of $1000 to get it all fixed up.

Also, try and get spacers who's hub diameter is the same as your car, or get hub spacers (available from any tyre store) to make sure the inside diameter is the same as your car, so that the spacer sits on the hub properly so you don't have to worry about centering the spacers correctly.
It will save you a lot of grief.

Try some of the forum sponsors.
Most of them carry wheel spacers in stock, or if not, they can get them made up correctly for you.
Don't cheap-skate with your safety!

There is a tyre store in S.A. that will custom make what you want. carn't remember there name , but an internet search should find them.
They made me a set 5mm thick with a hubcentric rings to fit my wheels, I went for ARP long studs, I wanted full lenght engagement of the thread, ( I am running alloy nuts) and I track the car.

ebay autobahn supercheapauto etc all sell them.

if you run them, longer studs are a must.

I was just wondering if anyone knew where to get better ones than the generic Autobarn/Supercheap type ones, I've already got some of those and they're crap.

I'll try Wheelworx tomorrow to see what they can do, but I think I really need to get a diameter measurement of a hub so i know how big they can be before they hit the calliper
