Coilovers on a budget

To be blunt, I want adjustible coilovers but not prepared to pay out a grand. I found a few sets on ebay that don't seem to bad but I'm wondering if there are any horror stories you've heard with $300 coilover suspension sets. I know skimping out can be a bad idea, I hear that about a lot of cheap wheels cracking etc. But I mean for that price, it doesn't seem bad.

Are there any alternatives? .

So yeah Coilovers! Do tell! Also, does anyone know exactly how much Sportmax wheels weigh? (15x8)

those coilover sleeve kits are well .. dodgy.

if you were to use them, you would have bugger all travel, and never know what the spring rates are. You wouldn't even
know if the spring rates are the same at the front, and back.

The sportmax 513's are heavier then the 002's. Its safe to say these are inbetween 8-10kgs. ( i cant remember the exact weights).

If you're on a tight budget wait for some 2nd hand items that are in good condition or just search for the right height springs and use the factory dampers.

Putting on dodgy shocks might not improve the handling and at worse could be quiet dangerous.

That ought to be your only option. A new $300 set will be a monumental waste of money.

$300 does not even buy you a set of springs! You get what you pay for.

think of it this way, its like buying some shitty nankang tires - its incredibly vital to your cars handling, i.e. an accident waiting to happen. i'd rather stick with oem than $300 el cheapos

You can't get something for nothing. Save the $1000 for BC Coilovers, it's the only way to do it.

Do you mean those sleeve kits? If so, you couldn't PAY me $300 to put them on.

Also, if these are the ones you are referring to, what dampers are you going to put them on? and how are you going to install the whole thing?
So dampers + installation = more $$

Why do you want coilovers in the first place? just for the sake of saying "I have coilovers on my car" ?
How often are you planning to raise and lower your car?

My opinion, BC coilovers are probably the cheapest complete set that are regarded as good quality units, but depending on your answer to my above questions, echoing what others stated, buy a set of complete used spring/damper Koni, Bilstein, Tein, etc etc

Once you realise the handling capabilities of the car, you'll come to realise that skimping on suspension, wheels, and tyres is a futile effort, .....not even mentioning safety.

Here you go Raceland coilovers. That price is in US and you would have to pay shipping on top, but they will might be around the $400au mark shipped. They have the NB kits on that site too if you have an NB.

Here is a review of them. Personally I would do what everyone else is saying and save up for a decent set.

If your truely after a height adjustable setup, these would be your best bet.

Come on guys, have a little think about this for a minute.

These are cheap and I’m mean CHEAP rubbish.

You are talking about risking your car and life for what? The ability to lower the car to the height you want?

Hell it cost more than this for just a set of decent lowering springs and this set up throws in dampers as well!! Get real.

Don’t forget you need to add the cost to transport from the US. And that’s not cheap. I had a set of Eibach’s sent over and transport was $400, so you’re up for $650. You can’t even buy a cardboard coffin for that.

Start looking for a good quality second hand set from one of the known makers, Koni, Tein or Bilstein.
