Hey guys, I'll start by saying I'm running a pretty stock na6 mx5, so far all I have done is a 2.25" cat back system with a 2.5" tip and getting genie extractors (when they are in stock again at the place I'm booked in) soon.
Basically, for anyone who lives in Geelong, I got my current cat back system done at South Geelong Exhausts. I was pretty happy when I got it but the more I drove it in, the more I realised how bad it was. It wasn't so bad to begin with but the more I drove it in, the worse the rasp seemed to get. Now it's getting embarassing when I put the foot down, Can hear this ugly metalic *vrgggrrrrr* and it's doing my head in. When the extractors are in, it'll either be better or worse sounding with this current set up. Thing is, the guy didn't exactly give me what I wanted initially anyway. So I'm asking for you guys to help me out by suggesting something. I know I could probably get them to put a resonator in to clear up the dodgy note, but I'm actually looking for a new mufler in general now.
So far I've been looking at a Corksport Drift mufler http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGC-gB2g ... re=related which I didn't mind.
I'm just sick of then tin sound and want a fatter ritcher deep note.
Suggest away. Sorry if this is a little incoherent, I have an exam tomorrow so forgive me for not proof reading before posting!

the advice you get might not suit. If you are after an improvement in performance and a good note then Town and Country have a solution and it does not include extractors. Do a search - PCMX5 speaks well of them and others too. Your current set up might work well also by adding a "component" to take the edge of the sound.

Josh, swallow your pride and go and get aT&C muffler, you may also want a reasonator but you know the T&C sound is ok,and it will cost a lot less than the other solutions you are looking at.
Good tip here;exhaust places like quacks can always solve your problem(in their dreams);if they can't let you listen to a system or speak to customers with the system, run away!!!
Josh, I spent heaps getting to where I am so don't think you are the only one who has made a blue that requires rework.
Peter.
ps.NA6&8's do get a bit of benefit from extractors,ok value for money unlike NB on where the gain is poor value.

Broady, he did but didn't like their"attitude" which is his call and fair enough, and then he went to the other supplier, hence my swallow your pride comment.
He certainly hasn't understated how tinny it sounds, and he will not be the last guy to make a blue but from where he is now a rear stainless muffler for $220 or so would have him well on the way, then he could see if he wants the reasonator after using it for a while.

Yeah that doesn't sound like a bad idea especially for the price. That sound is really starting to piss me off at the moment haha. I'll give them a call sometime this week or the next and work something out. I'm thinking to do what you said with the rear stainless muffler. But maybe with a 3" tip oppose to my 2.5". I was wondering though, what are the exhausts called where the tip and baffling are the one piece (like that one I showed you). The typical 'cannon' ones I mean.
And as for extractors, my arm is really twisted on that one. My manifold is cracked and making a shocking noise and needs to go. I want the genie ones but I have to wait a month or something to get them. Or at least until next month, but annoyingly I have a nursing placement then so I'm stuck for a while I guess. I don't really have an objection with the xforce ones, but looking at the bends and comparing them, the genie look nicer and on top that I have a friend running genie extractors on an AE86 so I know what to expect. I don't know anyone with xforce so it's a bit of a gamble for me, especially since I know what it's like to get something you aren't happy with. I'm a little timid now.

Josh, bigger tip may contribute to your problem rather then solve it;even arounded tip of the same diameter makes a difference , I would be leaving the tip as it is and changing it only if you weren't happy with it after the muffler went on.When you are chasing a solution do one thing at a time so you can be sure of what the difference is, not having two possible causes.
Peter.
