NEW NB EXHAUST

Hi all.

Im looking at investing in a new exhaust system for my 2000 nb8b. This is mainly becuase I want my mx to have a great sound more than the benifits in power. I came across the X Force range that the mx5centre seem to be selling. I pretty much have no idea about all the exhaust lingo and wanted to know what everyone thinks about the range, has anyone got them? or if they have any other suggestions. The mx5 centre are selling the following 3 systems.

1. Extractors 4-2-1 NB X Force $480

2. Cat Back X Force Exhaust NB 2 1/4 inch $900

3. Stainless Sports Muffler NB $250

Any advice for making my mx5 sound great would be greatly appreciated.

After more reading i have also noticed that one of the favourites seem to be Jet's Integral Kobe? I saw/heard a clip on yotube that was fitted to an NA. WOW!! Can this be installed on an NB? Where do i get one? and how much? lol.

Town and Country Exhausts in Geelong come well recommended - they offer an excellent system eg catback with steel or stainless steel muffler. The price is a better than your #2. The prop is Colin 5223 1350. PCMX5 is the guru on the subject . A search will soon turn up good info.

With Chris H 's NB8B we went fom 74 Rwkw to 86 with a steel cat and a freeflow cat back with a stainless rear muffler;it sounds great and has dyno figures to prove the gains,.

I think the NB8A on manifolds are pretty efficient and that while you might pick up a couple of RWKW extractors are the least cost effective power increase on these models.

Not really sure on cost but around $950 for steel cat and catback.

Unfortunately for me, I discovered too late that catalytic converters come in TWO construction types. CERAMIC or METALIC. Chasing a better sound (like you!) I had an inch and a half ceramic cat. fitted with a s.s. muffler some years ago. The sound was very sweet but it wasn't enough! I had that cat. swapped for a two and a half inch metalic type, with a Hot Dog added to quieten it, and a Genie muffler. The bigger diameter cat brought about a noticeable improvement in throttle response... but the sound was 'ordinary' and too loud. I've since reverted to the s.s. muffler.Tho' now much quieter the sound (under 3000RPM) from the metalic cat plus steel Hot Dog is, to my ear, very low grade indeed... Best of luck!
