the brand is "Motospray" it was about $13 in a aerosol can.

I think any paint stripper should work the same though, just remember to wear goggles, gloves, and a mask.

Was the second pass result from just spraying it on, waiting and hosing off, or with scrubbing as well?

both needed a little scrubbing, I just used a small soft wire brush.

it didnt need vigourous scrubbing, just really a quick brush and the paint fell off, I did two passes because there were still a few patches of paint remaining.

make sure you dont do this anywhere near any other painted surface, if overspray hits something it will immediately begin to remove the paint, there isnt any time to hose it off.

so yeah, dont spray it anywhere near the car.

nah, not yet.

I intend to DIY as much as I can, my main reason for grabbing these was as a hobby.

about all I intend to get done at a shop is rolling the buckled rim, and maybe getting the lips polished (but only if my efforts fail)

I'm pretty sure I've had a quote from Advanced Wheels before for stripping/repainting and it was over $200 per rim..

I'm sure they do a very good job and worth it for an expensive set of rims, but not for me when they are only my spare set and only cost half that to buy the rims in the first place......

I had a steel rim re-rolled.
Outside lip was completely flattened (hit a curb at 45 deg at speed)
Took it to a couple of tyre places who claimed it was stuffed.
Neway fixed it for $65 including a quick respray.

I bought a set of these the other week in 16x7/8 that have stickers on the barrel claiming they are 4x114.3 +35 and +38, but the centres are actually 4x100 and the offset is actually +47.5 on both pairs. I think at some point someone has changed the bits around with a different set of 3 piece wheels to change the offsets

not sure about that, from what I've read and heard these wheels were only ever made in 4 or 5x100 PCD, when a wheel was stamped/stickered as 4/5x114.4 Rays would include an adapter in the box, basically, a spacer to adapt a 4x114.4 hub to a 4x100 one, this spacer was ~10mm thick.

therefore, the 10mm higher offset than expected, and the different PCD.
