New Soft Top - Brisbane

Postby Kain » Sat Dec 12, 2009 12:38 pm

My soft top is dying a slow, painful death (plastic window coming away from the zipper), and I figure its a good enough excuse to get a brand new top to replace the old, tired one. I'm thinking of getting one of the Prestige Auto Top ones from ebay, but I want to get a couple of quotes from local places before I go buying overseas. If I can get the same thing for a similar price locally, its a much better deal all round.

Does anyone know any decent places in Brisbane, preferably north side, to get a replacement soft top?

MX5Plus, but it will be second hand if that's an issue. The Prestige ones from the UK are good, and their service, delivery, prices etc are all good. No one in Brisbane that would sell new ones, other than Mazda of course, but not sure if they're still available from Mazda.

gomiata.com have a special on for Robbins soft tops at the moment.
Around US$ 540 for a glass window and demister with rain rail and about $80 for freight to OZ
I'm ordering one today, now I just need to figure out how to fit it!

I'm getting the one piece vinyl top with glass window (heated) Just got off the phone from them and got the emailed invoice. Total is 654.90 US which includes a new set of side tension cables and shipping was $65 to AU via Fedex!
Not a bad deal!!!
Cheers

I just got a replacement top that I need fitted to my existing frame. How hard is this to do, Ive had a look on the Miata garage site and browsed over some of the guides, and though I have never done it, it doesnt look too difficult, or am i just kidding myself??. I have to remove the old softtop and put this replacement on. As a novice at this would I be safe in allowing a whole day? what tools would I need, would i need one of those pop-rivet? gun things?? or would it be cheaper to get someone else to do it?

Cheers

To be honest, I'm not sure, I'm doing the same thing... I reckon the best idea is to enlist a couple of mates to help though....
I'll take a bunch of photos as i do it and post them when it's done if it helps!

Hey cshaks, out of interest, how long did it take your soft top to arrive? I ordered mine about two weeks ago, and I still haven't received it or heard anything about it.

Okay..... here begins the saga.
I ordered mine one the 21st of Jan, and a few days ago recieved an email asking for an extra $60 US for postage. Seems that as they do not do much international freight, their system is set up pretty much for US postage. I got quoted wrongly, and after arguing the point agreed to pay some extra for postage. Long story short, it's being sent via USPS, and was shipped on the 10th of Jan. The correct Fedex price was more like $225, and I payed $125 for USPS.
Kain you should have had a confirmation email sent to you on purchase???
If you wish, PM me and I will give me the email of the guy who I have spoken with there.
They said that they tried to email me a couple of weeks ago, however I did not receive the first email, so I was responding to the second request for extra freight costs.

Cheers

Well, I was also charged $125 for shipping, so I may have missed most of the trouble you seemed to have had. I got the confirmation email, but I had no idea how long it would take to arrive. I figured you could give me a decent estimate if you already had yours! I'm not worried enough to go bugging them about it, just curious.

It's a bugger that you had to go through that confusion, but at least it's all settled and in transit now :)
I'll post up when mine arrives, so then you can figure when yours might. I ordered on January 30th.

Kain, sounds like you'll get yours first.
Check your confirmation email, there should be something like this on it.....
USPS Tracking Number:
#############

You can go to this site and check on the shipping status with that number
