which torque wrench

hi, what range should be sort to get a complete torque wrench for working on a MX5`?!
suitable for wheel nuts, engine, body parts, etc etc.

what should be avoided?

I would recommend a deflecting Beam torque wrench, such as one from the Australian Company Warren and Brown. I have had two for a number of years and use one in particular on the MX-5 all the time. The smaller one I have is for anything needing inch/pounds (10-220 in.lbs/1-25nm), and the larger one is for Foot/Pounds (20-220 ft.lbs/30-300nm) and covers 99.9% of the MX-5.

At coventries the other day I saw a digital torque wrench socket attachment, to turn any 1/2" ratchet into a torque wrench.

It looked pretty cool and could be used to check the calibration of other torque wrenches, anyone know much about these?

Warren brown is very expensive stuff, I hear digitial is even more expensive again.

Rumur has it that the sidchrome torque wrench is made by W & B, when I sent it off for calibration your basically shipping it back to them.

I have a sidchrome (deflecting beam) 20 to 120 pounds has served me well. The only bad thing about it is you can't use it to undo nuts.

I've been watching Warren and Brown examples on eBay seem to be about $100 second hand which is what im looking at... and they are held in high regard by the owners selling them. Look sturdy and the defecting beam style look smore accurate and long wearing rather than a spring type...

most of us rarely use a torque wrench and you might consider that when you are doing something where it is necessary you borrow one eg head refitting. Not hard to buy W&B - I noticed them on display at an industrial supplier yesterday- go to places that the trade uses and it might be better priced.

Hey Wun my bro, don't you know you are NOT SUPPOSED to use a torque wrench to undo nuts as doing so might wreck its accuracy.

I use the Snap On torque wrenches and have no complaints. Purchase them from the US while the dollar is good
