Go clear or not?

As you can see, I have my front indicators apart because I finally got my arse into gear to shave the lettering off. When I had the lenses clean, I wasn't happy because I could see a layer of crap coating the inside as well, so they got cooked in the oven and pryed apart, cleaned and now...

The question now is, should I leave them apart tonight and source some orange chrome bulbs tomorrow?

cheers

I never get this exercise- you take a perfectly good front turn signal lamp and quite possibly affect its function. The amber bulb has a different base ( by design- 150 deg compared to 180) to the clear bulb so the function ie what it was designed to do is compromised. Removing the certfication numbers achieves nothing at all- aesthetically inconsequential. I reckon a mod has to improve function , or aesthetics and arguably the original appearance is more appropriate. The lense was hotmelted into the housing and leak tested on manufacture and removing it may easily cause a future leaker. The OE hot melt is not procurable so if it does leak you end up with moisture in the lamp or having to use some other sealant which may look unsightly or ineffective. I would put the sub lense back in and hope on reassembly is does not leak. Whilst lamps can generally be taken apart ( except when plastic is welded) they were not intended to be serviced apart from bulb replacement.

I never get the exercise you put yourself through every time you put an answer in a thread, a big f**king wall of text that I get bored of reading before the end of the 1st line. Did they forget to teach you how to make paragraphs in the 50's? Why? please! why do you put us all through it?

Do you seriously just like insulting peoples intelligence? or is your ignorance blind to you? Did I think about the lense not sealing properly upon reassembly? why yes I do believe if did and decided to do it anyway! Do I believe removing the lettering from a common replacement part which was capturing old polish and dust, also revitalising the entire lense at the same to be aesthetically pleasing, why yes I do! Thats why I did it! I like the way clean and clear lenses sparkle after I have cleaned the car. If you like cloudy lenses and caked up polish, good for you! at least its original!

I am pretty sure the gist of the original question was Clear or Stock, not WHY, how about sticking to that or f**k off.

you ask a question and sometimes the answer does not suit. I imagine that some expect applause for everything they do. If my answers are too long then best not re quote them.

I do agree with Madboy about para's and he did say that before- I am happy to take that on board. I also confess to having a fault of being to blunt at times and giving offence when that was not the purpose.

I don't know if the OP has a NB or a NA, but when I pulled the amber lenses out of the indicators on my NA8 I didn't have to change the globes, it already had the silver looking globes that flash orange... I don't know if they were original or if a previous owner put them in, but I imagine it would be a waste of time and money to put orange globes in when it still had the lenses. It flashes a very bright orange, so no compromise there, and no leaks either

Go clear, you know you want to

On a related note, where are you getting the bulbs? I'm keen to do this too, but I have no idea where to pick up the right bulbs from.
