NA6 VS NA8................. worth the extra??
sorry if this has been covered before
just wondeing if it is worth the couple of extra grand for the NA8 over the NA6
drove a 1.6 and it was a bit gutless is there a large difference between the two or more of the same
basically besides the engine and brakes any major differences
thanks

Pretty much, if you can afford an NA8, get it.

In a word, yes. Totally agree with Phil.
There isn't that much more kick, but the NA8 also included things like a stiffer chassis, better brakes, etc. However, if you're looking for power, why do you want a natmo NA?

Hey Locky
If you were disappointed by the 1.6 the 1.8 will not impress you. These cars don't have much power stock so either look for modded or look elsewhere. Even so, you don't need that much power to enjoy them.

Depends greatly on the criteria you consider to be the most important. If you are looking at straight line acceleration then NA6 and NA8 are almost the same, as I wrote in another thread. If you want better handling and brakes then the NA8 is the best pick, although you can add those mods to an NA6. If you want to do club track days or supersprints, then a NA6 is better because it's more competitive in the 0-1600cc class (NA8 gets mixed in with NB and possibly NC too). If you want to mod the engine then I've heard the NA8 is more suitable.

NA6 VS NA8................. worth the extra??
Hey mate, for starters if you didn't rev the na6 you drove past 4000rpm it would feel very gutless, the beauty of the 1.6 engine is that it reves very cleanly to cut out and makes most of its power and torque up high (peak torque @ 5,500 and peak power @ 6,500) In my opinion they have ample torque down low for pottering around town (having the ignition timing bumped to 14deg instead of the standard 10 really helps with this and makes the car feel a fair bit quicker- worth about 8kw on a 1.6 apparently-) but if you want to make it move you need to rev it.
My personal preferance is the na6 (helps that I own one) I've dríven a lot of 1.8s and and the defining difference for me is that the engine in the 1.6 is a lot more alive if you're having a bit of a fang. The 1.8 does feel stronger down low but the 1.6 feels a lot more free and sounds a lot better too! For me the 1.6 feels a lot more raw, while I'd like the extra torque of the 1.8 I wouldn't swap engines. I'm also yet to come up against a stock mx that I haven't been able to stick with in a straight line (nc's included)
The only na8 parts which are hard to retrofit to a na6 are the power mirrors and the power aerial... Depends on whether these are important to you. I like to have a bit of involvent in my car so adding the equivelant of na8 bracing was a good experience for me. I also have a set of 1.8 brakes sitting under my bed ready to fit, cost me all of $450...
I would say go and drive anouther car, I wouldn't base my judgement on mx's on one experience. We can rant of about our opinions but its what you think that matters. Go and drive anouther na6 and a na8 then make up your own mind Have you also considered an nb8a? I've only dríven one but it was quite a good thing

I would agree with Ben here. Drive a few others before making up your mind.
I drove four different cars (though nb8a's) before I found one I was happy with. The first three didnt impress me, and the last one drove so much better that it stood out as the pick of the bunch..
It may be that the 1.6 you drove wasnt a good example of the breed...

To upgrade to the stronger diff and bigger brakes would cost more than the difference, but if you are going to leave it stock then those mods probably aren't needed. I have owned both and prefer the 1.6 due to the 4.3:1 final ratio and lighter flywheel, but I now own a 1.8 so go figure!

NA6 VS NA8................. worth the extra??
sweet thanks for the replys
so pretty much there isnt a huge difference besides the brakes which are a bolt on afair, and the engine has a little more go
i come from a silvia background so the difference between CA and SR is quite noticible thats why im asking
i know its not going to rock my world power wise, still got the s14 when i want a power kick
just want something that can be a entertaining daily and do some twisty runs, dont plan on racing or anything, might take it to a wakfeild day or something as a change from drifting
i dont really care for power windows ect main reason is im dailying the s14 atm and being a striped out caged silvia, im pretty well know with the local highway patrol and defect fines are starting to add up in the thousands
just want something with a enough go to have fun, so i wont be tempted to jump in the 14 in the morning
pretty much the plan is a hardtop (or try to get a car with one) roll bar, coilovers (hsd's at staff price through work = win) and wheels with some KU36 semis and call it a day for a while

If you are modifying the na8 will be a better base.
Because if you get the na6 you'll be upgrading mods to make it on the same level an an na8, ie/ power, brakes, braces, diff.
If you aren't going to mod it up much, either is fine.

thinking i might just go with a 6 as there easier to find in alright nick for the money i have, then just get some NA8 brakes in a few months time

Hi, I have an NA6 and I do sprints in it - the brakes have never let me down yet and I don't even have performance pads. Unless you are doing some serious laps at a track then the NA6 brakes will serve you well enough. After all they are not heavy cars - especially the Na6
I agree with a comments above, yeah the Na6 is not as hot on paper engine wize, but on club drives and stuff my car seems to stack up against the Na8 and nbs - excluding the turbo monsters Also I like revvy engines over the low end torque of the 1.8 - might not be quite as fast, but feels faster for all the noise!!!
Probably the first thing to sort on the NA6 is the chassis bracing - it is surprising the difference it makes to the drive, just fitting a good roll over bar stiffens things massively. I would look at bracing over brakes.
Good luck
Si.
