really?

the centrecaps arent that heavy, they probably only weigh a few hundred grams (estimate)

the 7kg is after washing most of the crap off and after removing the balance weights.

what size are yours? these are 15x6.5

edit: just thinking, my scales arent exactly brilliantly accurate, when standing on them they can read about 2kg more or less depending if yuo lean slightly forward or backward, so maybe they werent reading the wheel correctly?

ok, did a brief test fit before I keep working on these.

no point spending time and money on rims that dont fit.

anyway, they ft nicely, dont rub anything and look nice.

the only things are that I still need to grab Rays Nuts, and I need to get some hub rings.

looks nice.

I quite like how it makes the stock brakes look huge :P

centrecap, not 100% cleaned yet.

but yeah, still much more cleaning before I can start to strip the paint and disassemble the wheels.

Mine are the same size (15x6.5) though offset is +25. Wouldnt think this would make much difference?. If anything, lower offset (numerically) rims usually seem to be heavier as they have thicker centres to space them outwards...

Hmm, maybe mine aren't exactly the same rim., though they look the same... :?

A stock 16" is around the 7 kg mark your volks should be lighter because its smaller???

Offset makes a huge difference in weight.
(The furthur it sticks out of the car the more metal there is)
Just go and weigh a 10 or 20mm mm aloy spacer and you will get the idea.

Thats why I shaved my wheels to make them 48 offset to save 220 grams of ROTATIONAL MASS and UNSPRUNG WEIGHT.
The wheels are tucked under guards for that jdm yo' feather-weight-super-wanky-look.

And bathroom scales suffer hysteresis hardcore only fat people use them.

lower offset doesn't always mean a heavier wheel, the face can concave or move into the wheel- creating dish, instead of adding more "spacer depth"

I know the CE28N is done this way im not sure about other volks

I know enkei RPF1 just adds more metal kida like adding a spacer

My Buddy Clubs are heavier for lower offset too.

Guess its easier (read cheaper) to just add material to the hub face to change the offset instead of altering the angle of the spokes, hence why some manufacturers go this way.

yes it's more common on cheaper brands, hence being cheap, because it doesn't require different sorts of faces to be cast, they just stick to the same face design then add more metal behind.

being a 3 piece wheel all offsets should weigh the same, wouldnt they just use a smaller inner and larger outer for a lower offset (ie: create dish)

meh, I'll try and track down a more accurate set of scales to try.

hks_kansei wrote:also I've got a quote to fix the bent rim, the guy said about $150-170 to roll and weld the rim.

hks_kansei

Where was the quote from?

Two of my rims have buckles in them that I'm thinking could do with fixing..(buckles not quite as bad as yours though)

Cheers

that price was from Shepparton Wheel works (03) 5831 2666

I'm still getting quotes from other places though to see how competitive they are.

Ok, more stuff, now we get to the interesting part!

STRIPPING!

Here's what a wheel SHOULD look like:
Image

this was hiding under the paint, but unfortunately couldn't be saved :(

2nd pass with the stripper:
Image

it's removing the powdercoat stuff, which is good because it gives me a clean slate for when I eventually reach the painting stage.

I'm loving how I keep finding little details like this:
