Does NB8B key have a chip in it?

Postby PT » Thu Dec 24, 2009 10:14 am

I'm at the shops at the moment trying to get a spare key cut for the car and the locksmith won't do it because he doesn't know if there is a chip in the head of the key. I didn't think it did. Does anyone know for sure?

Thanks
Paul

I thought there was, for the immobiliser...

I might be wrong though?

Went for a drive and there were slow cars everywhere, why are NC's so common . . . must be NC = Normally Cardiganed.

My understanding of NB8A and NB8B, is that both models keys have immobiliser "chips" in them. Certainly the little immobiliser light flicks on in both the 8A and 8B, and no remote for the 8A.

But, for the small cost of a key, why not just try it, then we'll all know, and will be forever indebted to PT for his pioneering efforts! :D

Sorry I can't help PT.

But for clarification the NB8A DOES have a chip in the key. (I got a standard key cut as a cheap spare should I lock my keys in the car) .
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Hey guys,

While we're on this topic - does anyone know whether there's a remote+key in 1 setup for mx5?

Something like the Audi keys (http://www.traderscity.com/board/userpix21/19990-audi-remote-key-1.jpg)

I only have central locking atm so i'll probably need to get a complete system on top.
