Kansei's Wheel restoration, Volk GR-C.
as some of you may have read in other thread I recently bought a set of 15x6.5 Volk GR-C wheels.
according to the sticker on the inside they are 4x114.3 and +38 offset.
according to the seller they are 4x100 and +48
I've read that these wheels were only made in 4x100 and that all of the 4x114.3 stock came with a spacer/adapter plate to make them 4x114.3, which would mean that the seller's PCD and offset are correct (assuming the adapter was 10mm thick)
anyway, when I picked them up they were looking a bit shabby, nothing too bad, just an old paint job and one is a bit bent.....
anyway, onto my attempt to restore these wheels to their former glory!
so I set about beginning the cleaning process.
the wheels were layed out on the grass and given a brief hosing to remove the loose grime.
the brief wash revealed a little secret on two of the wheels...... CENTRECAPS HIDDEN UNDER THE PAINT!!!
anyway, the wheels were pretty filthy, so I set about giving one a quick clean before dinner, here's the before picture:
and here is after two goes with Final Inspection's Power Wheel Cleaner (PWC) and a light scrub.
seriously, PWC is amazing stuff, it took the majority off on the first pass, next time I'll be leaving it to dwell for a bit longer and it should remove most of the rest too.
and here's the sticker of specs, which was hidden under the brake dust.
that's all I've done for now, more in the coming weeks/months.

no, SHOULD be 100.
I'll measure when I get home, but all sources tell me they are 100.

Not if they are stamped 114.3 HKS - that is a DOT identification of the PCD for the wheel, so don't get too carried away restoring them as they won't fit your MX-5.

true, usually I'd agree with the sticker, but the seller had them on his MX5, and there have been a few people who have confirmed the info on this thread:

no matter, the proof will be when I get a chance to measure them, hopefully I'll get a chance Tomorrow afternoon.

Very interested how these come up, as I have a set of the exact same wheels that need a colour change..
(bright red wheels on a BRG car is not a good look...)
keep us informed..

They are a two piece wheel, so maybe someone has changed the centres to 4x100? Check the bolts are tight and check them for run out if that's the case.

HKS_Kansei posting here, cbf logging Pam out and me back in:
Bigdog, it shouldnt be an issue, I'll be disassembling them to restore them anyway so loose bolts arent an issue atm.
btw they are 3 piece.

another update, just some more cleaning.
removed teh wheel weights:
after the weights were removed I weighed one wheel, weights is about 7kg including centrecaps:
then I soaked them in more PWC and scrubbed a shitload:
and they came out farking awesome!
still needs more cleaning though.
also I've got a quote to fix teh bent rim, the guy said about $150-170 to roll and weld the rim.

7kgs? wow, that must be a lot of grime on them, (or really heavy centre caps) as I have the same wheels (though +25) without centre caps and mine only weigh 5.5kgs each..
