Umm... Ok wow! I'm in lust! What a car! Would it be fair to say the car that made Mazda the company it is today (or at least played a fair part in it)

Wow, have always been a fan of these - one of those classic Japanese cars that Japan seemed to keep largely to themselves.
And it's going to a great home too. I guess this is the start of yet another great orx626 build thread.
Congratulations on the find and the purchase. You must be rather chuffed.

I too just purchased one of these...
on GT4. But it's still brilliant. Awesome purchase, what a classic Mazda.

an absolutely gorgeous car!
a quick question, there are a couple of other general Mazda Forums that I know people would be very interested to see the rebuild process, would you mine if they were linked to this thread/your build thread when it occurs?

I would leave the car in it's found condition and only replace the parts which need doing to get it to a registerable and driveable condition.

Firstly, thanks for all the positive feedback on my acquisition!!! I'm really looking forward to enjoying the Cosmo Sport experience.
G'day Stu, yes Jay Leno does own a Cosmo, however I believe he has replaced the 10A (0813) engine with a bridge-ported 12A from a first generation RX-7 . I'm not sure if he still has the original donk.
Me! Thanks for the lead on an engine builder but I've got that one sorted.
It certainly wasn't advertised as designed by Bertone, but I reckon his influence on the earlier Mazdas would have certainly rubbed off.
Which forums are you referring to as I'm a member of a few other Mazda forums? No problem linking the thread, I just want to reduce any double-ups.
You've hit the nail on the head Bruce! That's my exact approach to the project.
Cheers,
Danny

I think he has one of these parked in his garage too?

Gorgeous car!
Looks like you will be having some fun cleaning it all up, but it looks to be in wonderful, original condition so it's a great start.
If you need someone really good to re-build the engine, and you would want to keep it original, I hope, let me know and I'll put you onto someone who does great work with rotaries.

Wow, that's in such great condition for a 40 y.o. I've only ever seen one of those before in flesh, ...years ago in Adelaide. I thought it was beautiful then too. Can't wait to see it when you have finished.

Congratulations Danny,
It couldn't go to a better home, for what needs to be done. Please keep us informed on the progress.
Cheers

despite the very similar names they are both two separate forums.

That's good. I dislike restorations where you replace 90% of the car to get it pristine, leaving only 10% of the original historic parts.

I was so busy early December I completely missed this post, thanks to Phil for pointing me in the right direction
Congrats Danny, a great find. Next to get some cosmo 20b's and start jaming them into MX-5s.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
