How loud are these Philz?
Im really aiming for 'close to stock'. But they do look good.
Are there any ram air intakes out there?

SRI- is shown in my previous post, which offer no torque, but a better top end.
Those enclosed intakes will be loud, actually any aftermarket intake will be loud, (but will only be really loud if you punch it at 4k+, under it it's quite livable)
If you just want a subtle/sporty sound, with stock looks.
Swiss cheese air box.

nope, i'm onto my second cold side intake.. it actually decreases the torque. driveability and fuel eco is the same.

Originally I had a pod attached to the factory piping got it dyno'd and then once I did the 90 degree bend (same as Wazmans) and put the pod on the coldside I got it dyno'd again and came up 7rwkw and 12nm of torque. So i'm not sure if it was the factory intake piping that may have sucked all the performance, but thats what I got, lol.

Which intake is best for me?
It looks like a few companies have made the type of intakes Im looking for in the past.
Such as SMB and IL Motorsport..
But I dont think that either are in production today

I did one similar to that of Wazman.
I feel it is alot more responsive yet torque has dropped a bit and economy and driveability make no real difference. I had one similar to Szemens and to be h0onest it was a louder version of the factory with no real performance difference (I hope that makes sense)

Just to add in my little bit to whether that 'shorty' intake that Philz posted actually adds or removes torque (sorry if there's too much engineer-speak):
The performance benefits of an intake manifold are not solely dependant on the temperature of the air it feeds to the engine. Every intake has a 'natural frequency'. Every time an intake valve opens, it causes a pressure wave to go though the intake. If the frequency of that pressure wave due to the intake valves matches the natural frequency of the intake, basically what happens is the resonance shoves more air into the cylinder than usual. So you get a performance gain at that certain RPM.
The effect of all this is this -> the shorter the intake 'tract' (from the intake vales to the pod filter/end of stock intake), the higher the natural frequency, so the higher the rpm must be to match it. The opposite holds true for the longer intake tract, it favours low rpm. So when you dyno your short intake and get a power increase, its improved your top end at the compromise of your bottom end.
Of course, this is just one of several factors that dictate the performance gain from your intake.
TL;DR - Short intake for top end power, long intake for low end torque.

i have one, but i made it out of stainless steel, less torque, more top end, i think theres a slight fuel consumption issue, im gonna put the factory crap back on n see if it makes a difference

I had one of the Good Win Racing Monster Flow CAI's on my NB8A, which I then sold to Boags who used it on his NB8B...

Work very well, sound great when you've got the foot flat to the boards, but not an obtrusive or offensive sound when driving "normally". Definitely an improvement in throttle response and torque. Fair chance that power would have improved to some extent also. If you get one of these, make sure you get the optional coolbox too.
