Yes, but that would be logical, that's why I reckon it would be too good to be true. I'll ask my motorsport friendly engineers at the next club meeting when I see then and let you know what they say.

:lol: I think logic has won out this time. The ADR's won't draw any reference to FIA standards, as the ADR's are really developed with factory produced road vehicles in mind, and are a stand alone set of rules. The FIA on the other hand are a motor sport organisation and standard. I doubt that the factory MX5 seats would meet FIA standards :)

So how does that mean that the ADRs will be happy with FIA standards? Yes I can see your logic that the FIA are presumably stricter but the ARDs are still an incredibly comprehensive set of guidelines. Unless the reference is specifically made, assumptions can not be made.

The ADR's are a minimum standard which must be met. They're not a list of specifications which a seat must be built to. They do not penalise "over engineering", only "under engineering".

They won't reference other standards to please someone who fronts with a seat or whatever built to XYZ standard. The onus for approving, in this instance, seats, is on the engineer who is approving them. If the engineer is given a seat which meets XYZ standard, it is up to him to find out what the XYZ standard is, and cross reference it to the ADR's and see if it meets or passes the ADR's. I have not said that assumptions can be made. What I know is that the FIA standard exceeds the ADR's, in this instance for seats, and therefore an FIA approved seat meets ADR's and can be used in an Australian road car if installed correctly.

But Officer, my rollcage has FIA homolgation
I don't care son, just bend over and take it like a man!
:D
Sorry poor attempt at humour as I feared my posts may have been taken in a way they certainly not intended.
I'm curious to find out for myself as I wanted to get Velo Apex seats for my rally car but was told that although they were FIA approved, they were not ADR approved.
And that advice was confirmed by this:http://www.velo.com.au/VeloSizeChart.pdf
But as I said, I will consult two RTA authorised engineers that are members of my car club and let you know what they reckon.

Judging by that size chart, it seems that any seat with a head restraint is not ADR compliant. Probably due to the restricted vision. I guess it is a case of while the FIA standards probably do exceed the ADR's in some areas (ie seat strength and mounting point strength) there are other areas (ie vision) that will pass FIA, but not ADR. At least, that's what I'm reading into it.

This is what I think;
FIA exceeds ADRs in all requirements.
Importer/wholesaler has to submit form to the ADR people to have FIA specs of item recognised in Australia.
Thus an FIA sticker does not mean it is automatically entitled to an ADR sticker.

Bang! Full cages are specifically not road legal.

Forget ADR's, there are still state laws which dictate things like full cages in cars.

What I know is that my Sparco Sprint is legally fitted to my car, with a state DOT modification plate attached to the car, so I'm happy. So, in response to the original post of this thread, yes the Sparco Sprint can be approved to be put in a road car... :) happy days!! :lol:
